Police in Corpus Christi, Texas, are on the lookout for a woman who ran across a 10-lane state highway in cowboy boots after allegedly stealing items from a sporting goods store.

The woman was confronted by employees at the Academy Sports & Outdoors store in Corpus Christi around noon Wednesday as she left carrying a bag. She dropped the bag, later found to contain allegedly stolen items, and began to sprint, according to local ABC News affiliate Kiii-TV.

Police officers at the store, responding to an unrelated accident involving a pedestrian and a car, gave chase but the woman continued on to SPID, the major state highway that runs along the southern edge of Corpus Christi.

Footage captured by the Kiii-TV tower shows the woman, dressed in jean shorts, a white shirt and cowboy boots, dodging cars while sprinting through multiple lanes of traffic. She eventually leapt over the highway's median and ran towards the Kiii-TV station's offices before running off in the direction of a Denny's restaurant.

"One of the suspects took off running out of the store. The loss prevention officers were pointing to her, so one of the officers gave chase," Lt. Robert Alvarado of the Corpus Christi Police Department said, according to Kiii-TV. "As she got toward the freeway and show her intentions of crossing the freeway on foot, the officer disengaged his foot pursuit so he or she wouldn't get hurt."

A manager from Academy Sports & Outdoors told Kiii-TV that a second suspect was detained outside of the store but was released because of a lack of evidence connecting her to any shoplifting.

The woman captured fleeing on camera remains on the run but Corpus Christi police told Kiii-TV they have "a pretty good idea of who the suspect is."
