For the First Time in 16 Years, "This Week" Outperforms NBC's "Meet the Press" in Total Viewers and Adults 25-54 During Any Quarter

"This Week" is #1 in Adults 25-54 in Last Telecast of the Season; Winning the Demo in 3 of the Final 5 Sundays

For the 3rd Quarter 2013, "This Week with George Stephanopoulos" averaged 2.532 million Total Viewers and 700,000 Adults 25-54, according to Nielsen Media Research. For the first time in 16 years, "This Week" beat NBC's "Meet the Press" (2.513 million and 694,000, respectively) in both Total Viewers (+19,000) and Adults 25-54 (+6,000) during any quarter - since 3Q97.

"This Week" built on the previous quarter (2.447 million and 380,000, respectively for 2Q13) in both Total Viewers (+3%) and Adults 25-54 (+3%). "This Week" finished 3Q13 as the only public affairs program to improve over last quarter as CBS' "Face the Nation" (-13%/-12), NBC's "Meet the Press" (-6%/-8%) and Fox's "Fox News Sunday" (-7%/-7%).

"This Week" built on its Total Viewer audience both over the previous quarter (+3% - 2.447 million for 2Q13) and the year-ago quarter (+3% - 2.457 million for 3Q12).

During the 12 weeks of 3Q13, "This Week" outdelivered "Meet the Press" 7 times in Total Viewers and 6 times in Adults 25-54, scoring its most number of victories during any quarter in 16 years in Total Viewers and in 18 years in Adults 25-54 - since 3Q97 and 3Q95, respectively .

2012-13 Season

During the 2012-13 season, " This Week" was up in Total Viewers (+8% - 2.585 million vs. 2.393 million) and Adults 25-54 (+1% - 745,000 vs. 740,000) versus its year-ago season averages, delivering its most-watched season in 4 years - since the 2008-09 season. In addition, "This Week" improved the most over the previous season in Total Viewers, while standing as the only public affairs program to grow in Adults 25-54 compared to CBS' "Face the Nation" (+7%/flat), NBC's "Meet the Press" (-3%/-7%) and Fox's "Fox News Sunday" (+5%/-4%).

Competitively, "This Week" slashed half of its season margins with NBC's "Meet the Press" in both Total Viewers(-50% - 281,000 vs. 588,000) and Adults 25-54(-44% - 87,000 vs. 155,000) versus its margins last season. In fact, "GMA" posted its smallest margins with "Meet the Press" in 16 years inTotal Viewersand in 18 years in Adult 25-54-since the 1996-97 and the 1994-95 seasons, respectively.

In addition, "This Week" finished strong versus NBC's "Meet the Press" during the final 9 weeks of the season, beating the NBC public affairs program 7 times in Total Viewersand 6 times in Adults 25-54.

Further, "This Week" also showed strong momentum to end the season compared to CBS' "Face the Nation" during the final 7 weeks of the season, beating the CBS public affairs program 4 times in Total Viewersand 5 times in Adults 25-54.

On September 22, 2013, ABC News' "This Week with George Stephanopoulos" finished the 2012-13 season with its strongest telecast in 5 months (since 4/21/13) in both Total Viewers (2.909 million) and Adults 25-54 (919,000), according to Nielsen Media Research.

"This Week" ranked No. 1 in Adults 25-54, winning 3 of the final 5 Sundays of the season. "This Week" outdelivered NBC's "Meet the Press" by its largest news demo advantage (+163,000) in more than 14 years - since 6/27/99, based on regular telecasts. Additionally, "This Week" beat CBS' "Face the Nation" by its biggest Adults 25-54 margin (+156,000) in nearly 1 year - since 10/7/12.

For the 3rd Sunday in a row, "This Week" outperformed NBC's "Meet the Press" in Total Viewers (+166,000) , leading the NBC program in 7 of the final 9 Sundays of the season.

"This Week" posted gains over the previous week (2.690 million and 683,000, respectively, on 9/15/13) in both Total Viewers (+8%) and Adults 25-54 (+35%) , turning in the largest week-to-week growth in the key adult news demo compared toCBS' "Face the Nation" (-9%), NBC's "Meet the Press" (+4%) and Fox's "Fox News Sunday" (+17%)

"This Week" surged from the year-ago Sunday (2.475 million and 714,000, respectively, on 9/23/12) in Total Viewers (+18%) and Adults 25-54 (+29%). In Total Viewers, "This Week" improved on the year-ago telecastin 8 of the final 9 Sundays of the season. In addition, "This Week" stood as the only public affairs program to grow year to year in either demo as CBS' "Face the Nation" (-4%/-15%), NBC's "Meet the Press" (-7%/-16%) and Fox's "Fox News Sunday" (-10%/-19%) each loss viewers.
