"World News" Grows for 3rd Consecutive Week in Both Total Viewers and Adults 25-54

For the 7th Week Running, "World News" Decreases its Year-Ago Week Gaps with NBC by Double-Digits in Both Total Viewers and Adults 25-54

Monday Broadcast Stands as the Week's No. 1 Adults 25-54 Telecast

Ranks as the No. 1 Evening Newscast on Thursday in Total Viewers

For the week of September 9, 2013, "ABC World News with Diane Sawyer" averaged 7.95 million Total Viewers and a 1.7 rating/7 share/2.02 million in Adults 25-54, according to Nielsen Media Research. Growing for the 3rd consecutive week (7.62 million and 1.86 million, respectively, on w/o 9/2/13) in both Total Viewers (+4%) and Adults 25-54 (+9%), "World News" turned in its strongest performance in nearly 5 months - since w/o 4/15/13.

On Monday "World News" delivered its top telecast in both Total Viewers (9.050 million) and Adults 25-54 (2.357 million) in nearly 5 months - since 4/15/13. In addition, "World News'" Monday broadcast stood as the week's No. 1 Adults 25-54 telecast, beating "Nightly News" on the night by +170,000 demo viewers (2.357 million vs. 2.187 million).

"World News" ranked as the No. 1 evening newscast on Thursday in Total Viewers, leading "Nightly News" by +111,000 viewers (8.235 million vs. 8.124 million - 9/12/13).

For the 7th week running, "World News" decreased its year-ago week gaps with "Nightly News" by double-digits in both Total Viewers (-36%, 356,000 vs. 555,000) and Adults 25-54 (-74%, 84,000 vs. 322,000).

"World News" slashed its week-to-week Adults 25-54 margin with "Nightly News" nearly in half (-48%, 84,000 vs. 161,000). "World News" has trailed "Nightly News" by less than 100,000 demo viewers in 5 of the last 7 weeks.

"World News" improved on the same week last year (7.60 million and 1.83 million on w/o 9/10/12) in both Total Viewers (+5%) and Adults 25-54 (+10%). In fact, "World News" stood as the only evening newscast to improve year-to-year in both Nielsen measures as "CBS Evening News" (+6%/-5%) and "NBC Nightly News" (+2%/-2%) were both mixed.

Season to date, "World News" has increased its Total Viewing audience (+2%) compared to the same point last season, drawing its most-watched season in 2 years - since the 2010-11 season. "World News" narrowed its margins by double digits with "NBC Nightly News" in both Total Viewers (-33%) and Adults 25-54 (-29%) to post its smallest margins (716,000 and 275,000, respectively) with the NBC program in 5 years - since the 2007-08 season.

For the week, "World News" outperformed "CBS Evening News" by 1.87 million Total Viewers and by 559,000 Adults 25-54. In fact, "World News" scored its largest Total Viewer advantage in nearly 2 years and biggest news demo lead in nearly 3 years - since w/o 10/10/11 and w/o 12/27/10, respectively.
