ABC News Digital Launches the New ABC News App for iPhone and Android Devices
Re-Designed App Delivers a Personalized, Tailored User Experience Throughout the Day
"The News App That Keeps Up With You"
Features Personalized Push Alerts and a News Inbox, Mobile Curated "Best Reads" and ABC News Radio's Hourly Updates
Today ABC News Digital unveiled the completely new, re-designed ABC News App for iPhone and Android devices. More than just a visual-heavy list of endless headlines, the ABC News phone app combines a best-of Top Stories experience along with unique, customized features driven by extensive user research. The redesigned app is now available in Google Play and in the App Store and delivers even more up-to-the-minute news coverage and live streaming video, plus personalized push alerts, exclusive interviews and in-depth reports from the award-winning ABC News anchors and correspondents that users know and trust. Whether in the office or on the go, the new ABC News phone apps deliver the news and information users want, wherever, whenever and however they want it.
"We are proud to introduce our new ABC News phone app for iPhone and Android along with several innovative features that continue to enhance the user experience," said Joe Ruffolo, Senior Vice President of ABC News Digital. "We understand that the way our users are interacting and engaging with our stories is as important as the content itself. Through personalized alerts, editorial curation, deeper video, live capabilities and individual inboxes, our users can better follow the stories they care about most."
Built on the success of the day-parted ABC News iPad app, the upgraded phone app is designed to reflect the changing needs of news consumers throughout the day. With personalized push alerts, ABC News puts the user in control, keeping users up-to-date on the stories they care about most. As the first major news organization to introduce personalized push alerts into a news app, ABC News invites users to create their own customized news experience anytime, anywhere. Interested in a particular story? Simply select or "star" the story of interest and ABC News will send follow-ups directly to your phone lock screen via the app.
"Our users kept telling us that too many apps are sending too many alerts that are overly promotional and not relevant," said Doug Vance, Vice President of Product Development. "They love alerts, but only when relevant to what they care about. So we decided to meet that evolving need - now you'll never miss out on big, breaking news, but you'll also get a personalized news alert experience and a personalized News Inbox to keep you updated about the stories you've selected as important to you."
In addition to personalized push alerts, the new app features a light, clean design for a distinctive, modern look and feel, a first of its kind News Inbox, and enhanced navigation built around three key areas of interest: "Top Stories," "Best Reads," and "Daily Rewind." With "Top Stories" users can stay connected to breaking news, view full screen photo slideshows and use swipe gestures to easily navigate to their favorite content. When it's time for a quick break, users can take a deeper dive into the app with "Best Reads," a mobile-first curation of the most compelling features and unique news stories of the day. Finally, "Daily Rewind" features a new, evening-focused video experience that invites users to kick back and catch up on the day's top videos and lighter stories. And at the core of the app, the News Inbox and underlying personalized push alert system delivers a game-changing way for ABC News users to stay up-to-date with their favorite stories.
With the new ABC News phone app users can stay informed, engaged and entertained morning, noon and night. Using the app, users can experience several upgraded features, such as:
-Personalized Push Alerts: Be the first to know about the breaking news stories you care about most. Simply select or "star" stories of particular interest and receive real-time updates sent straight to your phone. While other news apps can bury you with alerts and promotional content, the ABC News app sends tailored, focused alerts about the stories you value, along with major news you need to stay informed throughout your day.
-ABC News Inbox: The first major news app that manages alerts, story follow-ups and saved stories in a personal inbox. Effortlessly catch up on the stories you care most about, and decide when you no longer wish to follow a story with a simple swipe
-Watch & Read: The new ABC News app makes it simple to scan the text of a story while watching a related video. Unlike other news apps that force you to choose between stories and video, the new app gives you the freedom to multitask!
-ABC News Radio: Whether you are on the road or at the gym, this new audio feature keeps you informed on-the-go. ABC News Radio content is updated hourly for a quick, hands-free hit of news any time of day.
