ABC News' Jonah Lustig reports:
A high school Spanish teacher in Texas must now defend her past as a Playboy model after school officials received complaints from at least one parent that the teacher's nude photos were online.
Cristy Nicole Deweese, 21, a first-year teacher at Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center, a magnet high school in Dallas, was named Playboy's "Coed of the Month" in February 2011.
In addition to photos of Deweese posing nude and participating in a simulated lesbian sex scene, there is also a video on YouTube of Deweese taken prior to a Playboy photo shoot. In the video, she discusses her plans to become a Spanish teacher while others around her make puns about the beef jerky she is consuming.
Even though the modeling gig was before she became a teacher, some parents have come forward and expressed concern that Deweese's online presence will distract students and prevent them from taking her seriously.
"I think it would be more distracting for the boys. They wouldn't see her as a role model, like she's supposed to be," said parent Esmeralda Landa-Soch in an interview with ABC News' Good Morning America.
School district officials declined to comment to ABCNews.com on whether they will take disciplinary action against Deweese other than to state: "The district is aware of concerns from parents regarding this issue. This is a personnel matter and it will not be discussed."
Attorney John Browning, who specializes in employment and Internet law, told ABCNews.com that whether the district can legally fire Deweese depends on what she disclosed in her original application. Otherwise, they may determine she violated the Texas Educator's Code of Ethics, which stipulates teachers must be of "a good moral character."
In a telephone interview, Deweese told ABC News that she's been a fashion model since she was 17.
She declined to say more until the school district decides what happens to her job, but she wanted to assure parents she did the modeling to "pay for expenses during college" and "stopped a year before she took a teaching job."
