Teenage Girl Shot Near Miami School
A teenage girl was shot near a Miami elementary school Friday morning, causing a brief panic when initial reports suggested the shooting may have taken place inside the school.
The incident was "NOT a school shooting," the Broward Sheriff's Office said in an emailed statement.
The victim is believed to be a girl, 15 or 16 years old, police said, noting that she was not a student at nearby Watkins Elementary.
She was transported to a nearby hospital with "non life-threatening injuries," according to police.
An investigation is ongoing and police do not yet have a suspect.
