For the week of December 23, 2013, "ABC World News with Diane Sawyer" averaged 7. 618 million Total Viewers and a 1.6 rating/6 share/1. 880 million in Adults 25-54, according to Nielsen Media Research.

"World News" narrowed its week-to-week gaps with "NBC Nightly News" in both Total Viewers (-14% - 1.107 million vs. 1.292 million) and Adults 25-54 (-31% - 236,000 vs. 344,000). "World News" turned in is smallest news demo margin with NBC in 5 weeks - since w/o 11/18/13.

"World News" cut its year-to-year Adults 25-54 margin with "NBC Nightly News" by -40% (236,000 vs. 394,000).

Season to date, "World News" is up versus the same point last season in Total Viewers (+1%), delivering its most-watched season in 4 years - since the 2009-10 season. In addition, "World News" is narrowing its season margin with "NBC Nightly News" in Adults 25-54 by double digits (-20% - 285,000 vs. 356,000) compared to its season margin from the same point last year. In fact, "World News" is posting its smallest news demo margin with the NBC program in 5 years - since the 2008-09 season.

"World News" has also significantly widened its Adults 25-54 lead over "CBS Evening News" versus its year-ago season lead by 74 % (322,000 vs. 185,000).

For the week, "ABC World News" beat the "CBS Evening News" by 1.081 million Total Viewers and by 403,000 Adults 25-54, seeing its largest margins over the CBS program in 4 weeks - since 11/25/13.

For the 4th Quarter 2013, "ABC World News with Diane Sawyer" averaged 7.925 million Total Viewers and a 1.7 rating/6 share/1.981 million in Adults 25-54, according to Nielsen Media Research. For the 3rd year in a row, "World News" increased its overall audience over the year-ago quarter (+1% - 7.925 million vs. 7.869 million) to attract its largest 4th quarter audience in 4 years - since 4Q09.

"World News" improved on the previous quarter (7.226 million and 1.841 million, respectively, on 3Q13) by 10% in Total Viewers and by 8% in Adults 25-54.

"World News" cut its year-to-year quarter news demo gap (4Q12) with "NBC Nightly News" by -20% (285,000 vs. 358,000), turning in its closest 4Q performance with NBC in 5 years - since 4Q08.

"World News" outperformed the "CBS Evening News" by 1.000 million Total Viewers and by 322,000 Adults 25-54 viewers during 4Q13, posting its largest news demo 4th quarter lead over the CBS program in 3 years - since 4Q10 .

Note: Due to Christmas eve, ABC's "World News," CBS' "Evening News" and NBC's "Nightly News" were coded as specials on Tuesday (12/24/13), while CBS and NBC were coded as specials on Christmas day on Wednesday (12/25/13). They are excluded from the weekly averages. "World News" did not air on Wednesday due to NBA coverage. ABC's, CBS' and NBC's program averages are based on 3 days (Mon, Thurs-Fri).
