Dozens of Vehicles in Massive Pileup on Pa. Turnpike

As many as 100 vehicles were involved in a massive pileup along an icy stretch of the Pennsylvania Turnpike outside Philadelphia, according to police.

Video of the crash site, taken by helicopter, near the Route 1 exit for Bensalem, Pa., shows a scene of carnage with jack-knifed tractor trailers, cars wedged under trucks, and rescue workers attempting to pry at least one injured victim from a white sedan.

Firetrucks and ambulances from two surrounding counties were called to triage and rescue victims.

Turnpike spokesman Bill Capone told ABC affiliate WPVI-TV that early reports from the scene indicated many of the injuries were minor.

In one section of the pileup, nearly a dozen vehicles, including a FedEx truck, careened on top of one another behind a wrecked tractor-trailer.

"What saved me was the tractor trailer and the FedEx truck. The FedEx truck kind of blocked me from getting hit," one driver told WPVI.
