"WORLD NEWS WITH DIANE SAWYER" WINS WRITERS GUILD AWARD FOR NEWTOWN COVERAGE

ABC's "World News with Diane Sawyer" won a Writers Guild Award for "Tragedy at Newtown" Special Edition in the category "News - Regularly Scheduled, Bulletin, or Breaking Report."

The one-hour breaking news report on the mass shooting at the Sandy Hook elementary school in 2012 was written by ABC News' Lisa Ferri and Matt Negrin.

As soon as information began trickling in about the shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, a team of producers and correspondents, including Diane Sawyer, quickly set out to report what would became an unfathomable national tragedy.

The one-hour special edition of the broadcast was anchored from the Newtown United Methodist Church, where people continued to gather throughout the night to pray for the victims, their families, and for the survivors.

"World News with Diane Sawyer" won a Writers Guild Award last year for breaking news coverage of the Aurora movie theater shooting. Ferri was also a writer on this report, as well.
