Make-A-Wish Foundation Makes Sick Boy Honorary Firefighter
An adorable 6-year-old boy with a mysterious medical disorder got a treat from the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Sheboygan, Wis., fire department - his dream job.
Ryan Wirtjes, of Sheboygan, was made an honorary firefighter for the town Thursday, getting a special uniform, a ride in the fire truck, and the chance to go along on an official safety inspection as part of the crew, ABC affiliate WISN reported.
"The smile on his face - I haven't seen that quite that big in a while," said William Wirtjes, his father.
It's a dream that would be difficult for Wirtjes to otherwise realize, since he has an unknown mitochondrial disorder that affects every part of his body and sends excess fluid into his brain.
Wirtjes will also be going to Disney World, with all expenses paid by the foundation.
"That is medicine and more magic that medicine could be," his mother, Joanne Wirtjes said.
