“Nightline” Delivers ABC Largest Overall Audience in the Time Period During a 1st Quarter in 11 Years

“Nightline” Outperforms CBS’ “The Late Late Show” During the Quarter in All Key Demos 

“Nightline” Beats CBS’ “The Late Late Show” in Total Viewers, Adults 25-54, and Adults 18-49 for Seventh Straight Week 

 ”Nightline” Defeats NBC’s “Late Night” on Thursday in Total Viewers for Second Straight Week 

“Nightline” Posts Week-to-Week Increases in All Key Demos Season to Date, “Nightline” Leads CBS Across the Board



During 1Q14, ABC’s “Nightline” averaged 1.666 million Total Viewers, 687,000 Adults 25-54 and 524,000 Adults 18-49, according to Nielsen Media Research “Nightline” outperformed CBS’ “The Late Late Show” during the quarter in all key target demos: Total Viewers (+219,000),Adults 25-54 (+56,000) and Adults 18-49 (+18,000).

“Nightline” has beaten “The Late Late Show” in overall viewers and in the key adult news demo in all 5 quarters that it has aired in its new time period.  Further, “Nightline” led the CBS program by its largest Total Viewer margin yet during a quarter.

“Nightline” improved on its year-ago performance in Total Viewers (+3%) and Adults 18-49 (+1%) – 1.610 million and 517,000, respectively, on 1Q13.  In fact, “Nightline” delivered ABC largest overall audience in the time period during a 1st quarter in 11 years – since 1Q03.   

Week of March 24, 2014:

ABC News’ “Nightline” drew 1.675 million Total Viewers, 640,000 Adults 25-54 and 512,000 Adults 18-49 for the week of March 24, 2014,according to Nielsen Media Research.  For the 7th week running, “Nightline” led CBS’ “The Late Late Show” in Total Viewers (+258,000),Adults 25-54 (+9,000) and Adults 18-49 (+15,000).

“Nightline” was up week to week across all target demos: Total Viewers (+6%), Adults 25-54 (+1%) and Adults 18-49 (+5%) – 1.580 million, 635,000 and 488,000, respectively, on w/o 3/17/14.

For the 4th week in a row, “Nightline” was up year to year in Total Viewers (+13%) and Adults 18-49 (+6%) - 1.485 million and 483,000 respectively, on w/o 3/25/13.   

For the 2nd straight Thursday, “Nightline” beat NBC’s “Late Night with Set Meyers” in Total Viewers (+53,000 – 1.743 million vs. 1.690 million on 3/27/14).

Season to date, “Nightline” leads CBS’ “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” across the board: Total Viewers (+214,000), Adults 25-54 (+68,000) and Adults 18-49 (+32,000).

Note: Due to CBS’ coverage of NCAA Basketball, “The Late Late Show” was delayed and retitled to “Late LT Show” on Thu (3/27/14) and Fri (3/28/14).  Ratings for both telecasts are excluded from CBS’ weekly averages.

ABC News’ “Nightline” is anchored by Dan Harris, Dan Abrams, and Juju Chang.  Almin Karamehmedovic is executive producer. The program airs weeknights from 12:35-1:00 a.m., ET on the ABC Television Network. Together with “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” “Nightline” is part of ABC’s winning late night strategy of airing news and entertainment programming.
