LA Cops Have 'No Idea' Why Mom Allegedly Stabbed 3 Daughters

Los Angeles cops have "no idea whatsover" what prompted a mother to allegedly stab her three young daughters to death.

The woman, Carol Coronado, 30,was hospitalized today, but is expected to be charged with murder when she is released, a representative for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.

Police said they were called to Coronado's home in Torrance Tuesday evening and were met by family members who told cops that Coronado had killed her three children who were 3 years, 2 years, and 2 months old.

The children were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the sheriff's office.

A representative from the sheriff's office says detectives have not yet established a motive. "We have no idea. No idea whatsoever," Lt. Dave Coleman of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department told ABC News.

ABC affiliate KABC reports that neighbors say Coronado had called the children's grandmother and told her she was going crazy, but authorities cannot confirm yet whether mental illness played a role.

Neighbors told KABC the children were stabbed to death with a kitchen knife, and authorities discovered the mother and her daughters covered in blood inside a bedroom.

"It's pretty tragic and pretty brutal," neighbor Bryan Gonzalez told the station.

The sheriff's department urged anyone with information on this case to call 800-222-8477.
