"World News" Wins Four Out of Five Nights in Adults 25-54 Last Week - First Time in Over Six Years

"World News" Delivers the Most Growth in Total Viewers (+14%) and the Demo (+24%) Compared to the Same Week One Year Ago

Season to Date, "World News" is the Only Evening Broadcast to Improve Demo (+4%) from Last Year; NBC and CBS Programs are Down

For the week of May 12, 2014, in the final complete week of the 2014 May Sweeps, " ABC World News with Diane Sawyer" ranked as the No. 1 evening newscast among Adults 25-54, according to Nielsen Media Research. "ABC World News with Diane Sawyer" led "NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams" by +83,000 Adults 25-54 (2.070 million vs. 1.987 million) to win the week in the key adult news demo for the 4th time in the past 6 weeks.

Head to head, "World News" beat "NBC Nightly News" in 4 of 5 telecasts during the week in Adults 25-54, outdrawing the NBC evening newscast on Monday (+204,000 - 2.354 million vs. 2.150 million), Tuesday (+179,000 - 2.164 million vs. 1.985 million), Thursday (+60,000 - 2.007 million vs. 1.947 million) and Friday (+14,000 - 1.704 million vs. 1.690 million). Further, it is the first time in over 6 years that "World News" outdelivered "Nightly News" 4 times during the course of a week - since w/o 4/7/08.

"World News" turned in double-digit increases on the same week last year in both Total Viewers (+14%) and Adults 25-54 (+24%) - 6.668 million and 1.665 million, respectively, on w/o 5/5/13. Further "World News" improved the most in both measures compared to "CBS Evening News" (+13%/+8%) and "NBC Nightly News" (+13%/+4%).

"World News" improved over the previous week by 3% in Total Viewers and by 10% in Adults 25-54 (7.354 million and 1.883 million, respectively, for w/o 5/5/14).

For the 2nd week in a row, "World News" cut its Total Viewer margin with "NBC Nightly News" week to week (-5% - 830,000 vs. 877,000).

Season to date, "World News" is up versus the same point last season in both Total Viewers (+4%) and Adults 25-54 (+5%), delivering its most-watched season in 5 years and best news demo number in 3 years - since the 2008-09 and the 2010-11 seasons, respectively. "World News" also stands as the only evening newscast to improve its demo performance from the previous season compared to "CBS Evening News" (-5%) and "NBC Nightly News" (-2%).

In addition, "World News" is narrowing its season margin with "NBC Nightly News" in Adults 25-54 by double digits (-42% - 190,000 vs. 327,000) compared to its season margin from the same point last year. In fact, cutting its Adults 25-54 gap for the 3rd consecutive season, "World News" is seeing its closest news demo performance with the NBC program in 6 years - since the 2007-08 season.

"World News" has more than doubled its Adults 25-54 lead over "CBS Evening News" versus its year-ago season lead (+103% - 381,000 vs. 188,000).

For the week, "ABC World News" beat the "CBS Evening News" by 1.078 million Total Viewers and by 422,000 Adults 25-54.
