"World News" is the Only Evening News Broadcast Up from Last Year in All Key Measures: Total Viewers (+6%), Adults 25-54 (+5%) and Adults 18-49 (+3%)

Season to Date, "World News" is the Only Evening Broadcast to Improve in Adults 25-54 (+5%) from the Same Period Last Year

ABC " World News with Diane Sawyer" ranked No. 1 in Adults 25-54 (1.917 million) for the week of July 14, 2014, according to Nielsen Media Research. Winning in the key adult news demo for the 3rd week in a row, "World News" scored its longest run at No. 1 in more than 6 years - since w/o 3/10/08 through 3/24/08. "World News" beat NBC's "Nightly News" (1.794 million) during the week by 123,000 demo viewers, taking the top spot in Adults 25-54 in 9 of the last 15 weeks.

"World News" saw increases over the prior week (7.237 million and 1.842 million, respectively, for w/o 7/7/14) in Total Viewers (+3%) and Adults 25-54 (+4%), posting its strongest numbers in 6 weeks - since w/o 6/2/14. In addition, "World News" grew the most week to week in both measures compared to "CBS Evening News" (+2%/+1%) and "NBC Nightly News" (up less than +1%/+2%).

For the 4th straight week, "World News" built on the year-ago week in Total Viewers (+6%), Adults 25-54 (+5%) and Adults 18-49 (3%) - 7.010 million, 1.818 million and 1.256 million, respectively, on w/o 7/15/13. In fact, "World News" grew the most year to year in Total Viewers while standing as the only evening news program to grow in the key Adult demos, as "CBS Evening News" (+2%/-5%/-7%) and "NBC Nightly News" (+1%/-6%/-3%) were mixed.

Head to head, "World News" outdrew "NBC Nightly News" two times during the week in Total Viewers on Monday (+92,000 - 8.110 million vs. 8.018 million) and Friday (+55,000 - 7.166 million vs. 7.111 million). In addition, "World News" owned the week's most-watched telecast with its Monday airing for the 2nd time in the last 3 weeks.

In Adults 25-54, "World News" led "NBC Nightly News" head to head four times during the week: Monday (+234,000 - 2.197 million vs. 1.963 million), Tuesday (+57,000 - 1.875 million vs. 1.818 million), Thursday (+30,000 - 1.931 million vs. 1.901 million) and Friday (+474,000 - 1.942 million vs. 1.468 million). In fact, "World News'" Friday victory represented its largest single-day advantage over a "Nightly News" telecast in more than 5 years - since 11/18/08, based on regular telecasts. In addition, "World News'" Monday airing was the week's No. 1 telecast in Adults 25-54.

"World News" cut its Total Viewer gaps with "NBC Nightly News" both week to week (-36% - 327,000 vs. 513,000) and year to year (-50% - 327,000 vs. 659,000). "World News" has narrowed its year-to-year Total Viewer margins by double digits for the last 4 weeks.

Season to date, "World News" is up versus the same point last season in both Total Viewers (+4%) and Adults 25-54 (+5%), delivering its most-watched season in 6 years and best news demo number in 3 years - since the 2007-08 and the 2010-11 seasons, respectively. "World News" also stands as the only evening newscast to improve on its news demo performance from the previous season compared to "CBS Evening News" (-5%) and "NBC Nightly News" (-3%).

In addition, "World News" is narrowing its season margin with "NBC Nightly News" in Adults 25-54 by more than half (-55% - 140,000 vs. 308,000) compared to its season margin from the same point last year. In fact, cutting its Adults 25-54 gap by double digits for the 3rd consecutive season, "World News" is seeing its closest news demo performance with the NBC program in 6 years - since the 2007-08 season.

"World News" has nearly doubled its Adults 25-54 season lead over "CBS Evening News" versus its year-ago season lead (+89% - 411,000 vs. 217,000).

For the week, "ABC World News" beat the "CBS Evening News" by 1.264 million Total Viewers and 440,000 Adults 25-54.
