"World News" Wins Demo for 7 of Past 8 Weeks

"World News" Gains in All Key Measures Compared to Last Year - Total Viewers, Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49

"World News" is the Only Evening Broadcast to Improve Season to Date in Both Adults 25-54 (+5%) and Total Viewers (+4%) from Last Year

ABC " World News with Diane Sawyer" ranked as the No. 1 evening news program in Adults 25-54 (1.918 million) for the 3rd week running during the week of August 18, 2014, based on Live +Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. In fact, "World News" has led the evening news race in the key adult news demo for the 7th time in the last 8 weeks and in 13 of the last 20 weeks, overall. "World News" beat NBC "Nightly News" (1.860 million) by 58,000 news demo viewers.

For the 2nd week in a row, "World News" scored across-the-board increases year to year: Total Viewers (+5%), Adults 25-54 (+10%) and Adults 18-49 (14%) - 6.989 million, 1.741 million and 1.151 million on w/o 8/19/13.

"World News" beat "NBC Nightly News" in Adults 25-54 in 3 of 5 head to head-to-head telecast during the week: Monday (+77,000 - 1.992 million vs. 1.915 million), Tuesday (+411,000 - 2.049 million vs. 1.638 million) and Wednesday (+122,000 - 2.094 million vs. 1.972 million). Further, "World News" aired the week's Top 2 Adult 25-54 telecasts with its Wednesday and Tuesday airings, respectively.

Season to date, "World News" is up versus the same point last season in both Total Viewers (+4%) and Adults 25-54 (+5%), delivering its most-watched season in 6 years and best news demo number in 3 years - since the 2007-08 and the 2010-11 seasons, respectively. "World News" also stands as the only evening newscast to improve on its news demo performance from the previous season compared to "CBS Evening News" (-4%) and "NBC Nightly News" (-3%).

In addition, "World News" is narrowing its season margin with "NBC Nightly News" in Adults 25-54 by more than half (-58% - 119,000 vs. 284,000) compared to its season margin from the same point last year. In fact, cutting its Adults 25-54 gap by double digits for the 3rd consecutive season, "World News" is seeing its closest news demo performance with the NBC program in 6 years - since the 2007-08 season.

"World News" has significantly increased its Adults 25-54 season lead over "CBS Evening News" versus its year-ago season lead (+76% - 411,000 vs. 233,000).

For the week, "ABC World News" defeated the "CBS Evening News" by 793,000 Total Viewers, 283,000 Adults 25-54 and 163,000 Adults 18-49.

NOTE: Due to pre-season football, "CBS Evening News" was retitled on Friday (8/22/14) and was excluded from the program averages. CBS' weekly averages are based on four days (Mon-Thurs).
