A Look Inside Gulfstream's New High-Tech Private Jet

Gulfstream Aerospace Corp., well known for its business jets, introduced a new family of swanky jets today: the Gulfstream G500 and the G600.

Most fascinating about the unveiling is the degree of secrecy that has surrounded the manufacturing giant's projects. The two new aircraft offer unprecedented "speed, wide-cabin comfort and efficiency," according to the company.

The cloak surrounding this project led one Wall Street analyst to scrutinize satellite photos of Gulfstream's production facility in Savannah, Georgia, for clues, t he Wall Street Journal reported, emphasizing the financial importance of the project to the parent company, General Dynamics Corp. This particular project has been code-named P-42.

The G500 is scheduled to take its first flight in 2015 and is expected to receive certification in 2017 from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration and the European Aviation Safety Agency, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2018.

The G600 will follow, with flight test program expected to launch 12 to 18 months after the G500, with plans to enter into service in 2019, according to the company.
