"World News Tonight" Improves in Total Viewers (+5%) and Adults 18-49 (+2%) Compared to the Year-Ago Week

Season to Date, "World News Tonight" Increases the Most in Total Viewers (+6%), Adults 25-54 (+7%) and Adults 18-49 (+4%) from Last Year

" World News Tonight with David Muir" averaged 9.881 million Total Viewers, 2.405 million Adults 25-54 and 1.712 million Adults 18-49 during the week of January 5, 2015, based on Live +Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research.

For the 2nd week in a row, "World News Tonight" posted week to week gains (8.633 million, 2.216 million and 1.547 million, respectively, for w/o 12/29/14) across all key target demos: Total Viewers (+14%), Adults 25-54 (+9%) and Adults 18-49 (+11%). In fact, "World News Tonight" turned in its most-watched week in over 7 years - since w/o 2/12/07.

"World News Tonight" improved on the year-ago week (9.422 million and 1.684 million, respectively, on w/o 1/6/14) in Total Viewers (+5%) and Adults 18-49 (+2%).

"World News Tonight" narrowed its year-to-year margins with "NBC Nightly News" across the board by double-digits: Total Viewers (-38% - 786,000 vs. 1.271 million), Adults 25-54 (-5% - 252,000 vs. 264,000) and Adults 18-49 (-31% - 267,000 vs. 385,000).

Season to date, "World News Tonight" has slashed nearly all of its season margin with "NBC Nightly News" in Adults 25-54 (-98% - 5,000 vs. 283,000), delivering its closest news demo performance with the NBC program in 7 years - since the 2007-08 season. In addition, "World News Tonight" cut its season gaps with "NBC Nightly News" by 39% in Total Viewers (641,000 vs. 1.048 million) and by 57% in Adults 18-49 (127,000 vs. 296,000) to its closest performances in 6 years and 7 years, respectively - since the 2008-09 and the 2007-08 seasons, respectively.

"World News Tonight" is improving versus the same point last season in Total Viewers (+6%), Adults 25-54 (+7%) and Adults 18-49 (+4%). "World News Tonight" is averaging its largest overall viewer audience in 7 years and strongest in the key adult news demo in 5 years - since the 2007-08 and the 2009-10 seasons, respectively. In addition, "World News Tonight" is improving the most in Total Viewers, Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49 compared to "CBS Evening News" (+2%/+2%/+3%) and "NBC Nightly News" (+1%/-6%/-6%).

For the week, "World News Tonight" defeated the "CBS Evening News" by 1.225 million Total Viewers, by 361,000 Adults 25-54 and by 304,000 Adults 18-49.
