"World News Tonight" Cuts Gaps with "NBC Nightly News" by Double Digits in Total Viewers (-39%) and Adults 18-49 (-59%) Season to Date

" World News Tonight with David Muir" ranked No. 1 in Adults 25-54 (2.216 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.547 million) during the week of December 29, 2014, based on Live +Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. Season to date, "World News Tonight" took the top spot in the key adult news demo for the 9th time this season, its most number of wins at this point of a season in 18 years - since the 1996-97 season. "World News Tonight" also scored its first Adults 18-49 victory of the season.

"World News Tonight" was up over the previous week (8.376 million, 2.064 million and 1.389 million, respectively, for w/o 12/22/14) in Total Viewers (+3%), Adults 25-54 (+7%) and Adults 18-49 (+11%), hitting its strongest performance in 5 weeks in the key adult demos - since w/o 11/24/14.

"World News Tonight" cut its margins with "NBC Nightly News" in Total Viewers by double-digits both week to week (-34% - 693,000 vs. 1.054 million) and year to year (-27% - 693,000 vs. 952,000).

Season to date, "World News Tonight" stands as the No. 1 evening newscast in Adults 25-54, leading "NBC Nightly News" by 12,000 news demo viewers. This marks the first time in 7 years that "World News Tonight" ranks as the top evening newscast in Adults 25-54 during the season - since the 2007-08 season. In addition, "World News Tonight" slashed its season gaps with "NBC Nightly News" by 39% in Total Viewers (633,000 vs. 1.034 million) and by 59% in Adults 18-49 (118,000 vs. 290,000) to its closest performances in 6 years and 7 years, respectively - since the 2008-09 and the 2007-08 seasons, respectively.

"World News Tonight" is improving versus the same point last season in Total Viewers (+7%), Adults 25-54 (+7%) and Adults 18-49 (+5%). "World News Tonight" is averaging its largest overall viewer audience in 7 years and strongest in the key adult news demo in 5 years - since the 2007-08 and the 2009-10 seasons, respectively. In addition, "World News Tonight" is improving the most in Total Viewers, Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49 compared to "CBS Evening News" (+1%/+1%/+3%) and "NBC Nightly News" (+1%/-7%/-7%).

For the week, "World News Tonight" led the "CBS Evening News" by 1.206 million Total Viewers, by 438,000 Adults 25-54 and by 311,000 Adults 18-49.
