A woman gave birth to a healthy baby boy in the bathroom of the Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport Sunday afternoon, shortly after stepping off an incoming flight, the Baltimore Sun reported.

According to Dr. Roger Harms, obstetrician at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., commercial airline travel is generally safe for pregnant women. But, at about seven months along, some women who are considered at high-risk for preterm labor may be advised not to fly.

It’s unclear how far along the woman was in her pregnancy or whether she was advised that it was OK  to fly on the busiest travel day of the year.

The change in air pressure and potential exposure to radiation can put a woman at risk for complications such as clotting disorders and placental insufficiency, he said. Airplane travel does not normally speed labor, he said.  

The woman and child were transported to Baltimore Washington Medical Center, the Sun reported.

 The Baltimore Washington Medical Center declined ABC News’ request to speak with the woman.
