Thirty-two-year-old Dante Autullo was working with a nail gun at his home in suburban Chicago when he misfired, causing a nail to go whizzing past his head, or so he thought. Mr. Autullo had actually just shot himself in the head with a 3 1/2 inch nail, he just didn’t realize it. Autullo proceeded to continue working, spending more than a day with the nail stuck in his brain.

After experiencing nausea and headaches the next day, Mr. Autullo went to the hospital, where an X-ray uncovered the nail. Both Mr. Autullo and his family were flabbergasted. “Un-freaking-believable,” his fiancee Gail Glaenzer said to the Naperville Sun.

“They were shocked because he was walking and talking, and he had it in for 36 hours,” Autullo’s mother, Jerri Autullo told the Sun. “I hoped that it wasn’t going to be as bad as it looked.”

Autullo was taken to Christ Medical Center, where he had surgery Thursday morning. He’s recovering there today, eager to get back to work.

“He’s in the darn hospital yelling that there’s a big snowstorm tomorrow and how’s he going to plow?” Glaenzer told the Sun. “This is from a guy who just got his brain cut open.”

Was there no blood, how did he not realize he shot himself? I’m bewildered.

DIY’ers

Please, do not put the triggers in your nail guns that are the bump-fire type. Bump-fire is for the professional doing production work.
If your nail gun has a selection switch, leave it in the trigger-fire mode.

Being a professional. I have seen more people injure themselves and others by using nail guns that are meant for the professional.

To those of you that may not understand my terminology. Bump-fire simply means that all you do is hold in the trigger and anytime the nose of the gun is bumped, it shoots a nail. Trigger-fire is when you physically have to push in the nose, then squeeze the trigger.

That’s not to say that professionals don’t injure themselves, they do. I’ve seen too many guys carrying a nail gun around, in bump-fire mode, with their fingers holding the trigger in. They don’t realize that if they were to bump the nose on their leg, knee, calf, anything – they shoot a nail into themselves. And never, I mean never, climb a ladder (up or down) with your finger on the trigger.

Make sure u ask about the fact that it was his mother that sent him to the hospital and told him somthing was wrong not his wife! The nail came in from on top of the right side it shifted as it went in. He didnt know he though nose of the gun cut him and he said he heard a nail pass by his ear. You don’t have nerve endings that display pain inyour brain thats why he didnt feelit goin just that he was hit in the head with the heavy gun.

Now if he lived in South Carolina that would help explain their voting.
