Spring Break: Popular Destination Prices

Spring break - whether for college coeds or families - is fast approaching. Where's everybody going this year? And just how much is it going to cost?

According to online travel agency Orbitz, there is some good news for travelers: Booking data show the average airfare has dropped since spring break last year to every one of this year's top 10 destinations. Hotel rates, however, are a different story, up in nine out of the ten destinations that top this year's list. The only exception: Las Vegas, with an average rate of $139 per night, a 2 percent decrease since last year.

Warm-weather destinations dominate the top 10 list. The only exception is New York City, coming in at No. 8. The average high temperature in New York City in March is just 48 degrees. Hotel rates in New York City are also the most expensive of any destination to make the top 10 list, averaging $316 per night - a 13 percent increase since last year.

The least expensive hotels this spring break are in Orlando, averaging $130 per night. Orlando is also, perhaps not surprisingly, the most popular destination with spring break family travelers.
