Legoland Hotel Opens, N. America's First
The Legoland Hotel opened in Carlsbad, Calif., Friday. Just outside the front gate of Legoland in California, it's the first hotel of its kind in North America.
The 250 guest rooms are themed, so families can choose from one of three lines - Pirate, Kingdom or Adventure. Rooms include two separate sleeping areas, with a queen-size bed for grown-ups and a separate area for up to three kids.
Kids' areas have a bunk bed, pull-out trundle bed and a TV. In the hotel, there's a heated swimming pool, Lego-themed buffet restaurant and themed elevators. There's also nightly kids' entertainment.
Insider tips: Unfortunately, there's a daily Resort Fee of $20 plus applicable tax, which isn't reflected in the nightly rate. Request a room on the second or third floor facing west, as some of those have ocean views. Legoland Hotel guests get entry to select Legoland rides and attractions before the park officially opens. Rates the first weekend in May start at $339 per night.
