Robin Pietschmann had an idea that reached for the skies to propose to his girlfriend of a year and a half, Ashley Emery.
While the Sterling Heights, Mich., couple was skydiving on Sept. 8, Pietschmann popped the question by having the message embroidered into his jump suit, and actually pulled the ring out while in freefall.
"I always knew if I'm going to marry Ashley I'd have to do it skydiving," Pietschmann, 23, said today during a Skype interview on "GMA LIVE!"
"Everyone told me not to give her the ring in freefall because I could lose it or it could fly away, but I just wanted to be different. I wanted to be unique. But I was worried. I did not want to lose it, but it worked out."
A stunned Emery admitted she had no idea what was happening, but once she figured it out, replied with a "Yes."
"We were in the plane and I had absolutely no idea," said Emery, 24. "I had been studying all day and I actually didn't even want to go skydive, and he's like, 'Come skydive with me,' and I was like, 'Alright, I guess.' And once he started unzipping the sleeves on his arms I kind of knew what was going on, but I was totally surprised."
The happy couple, who met while skydiving, said they do not plan to carry on the high-flying theme for the wedding, but the honeymoon might be a different story.
"I want to wear a dress," Emery said of her big day. "Maybe on our honeymoon we can skydive, but I think at the wedding I want my hair done and a dress and everything."
Pietschmann and Emery plan to wed Aug. 16, 2014.
