The soft, slow drawls of the South are the sexiest accents in North America, according to a poll conducted on Cupid.com

Approximately 2,000 men and women registered on the dating site voted for what they considered the most attractive speaking styles, with "Southern" taking top honors. The poll did not distinguish among regional dialects, such as Virginia Piedmont, Gullah or Southern Appalachian.

First place on the sexiest accents list was quickly followed by "New York," "Western," "New England," "New Jersey," "Canadian," Midwestern" and "Mid-Atlantic."

But not everyone agreed with the designations.

"Personally, I like Hawaiian," read a comment on the Cupid.com announcement.
