The Kansas Carraba's Italian Grill where diners left an anti-gay message along with no tip for their server has been flooded with support for the server.

"I can't comment on the amount of business we've had from it but what I can let you know is that we've had people come out to support Josh," Chris Stobaugh, the restaurant's managing partner, told GoodMorningAmerica.com.

Josh, a 20-something server at the Italian restaurant chain whose last name has not been revealed, received kudos for "excellent" service from his customers but no tip because, they wrote, he is gay.

"Thank you for your service, it was excellent. That being said, we cannot in good conscience tip you, for your homosexual lifestyle is an affront to God. May God have mercy on you," read the message left by unidentified diners this month, according to ABC affiliate KMBC.

Reports of the incident were circulated on social media by Josh's friends and quickly drew both national and local media attention.

Stobaugh confirmed to GoodMorningAmerica.com that the incident did occur at his Overland Park restaurant but declined to release further details.

Josh is still employed as a server at the restaurant, where his mother also works as a hostess, according to Stobaugh.

"He's expressed disinterest in talking to the media," Stobaugh said of his employee. "He would rather his hard work and good ethics speak for themselves."

Locals news reports of the incident cited the check as also reading, "(Gay slur) do not share in the wealth of GOD, and you will not share in ours. We hope you will see the tip your (gay slur) choices made you lose out on, and plan accordingly. It is never too late for GOD'S love, but none shall be spared for (gay slur). May GOD have mercy on you."

Stobaugh would not confirm the message left on the check. Carrabba's, which operates over 200 restaurants throughout the U.S., issued a statement after the incident was made public.

"We do not tolerate discrimination-from either our employees or our guests. We embrace diversity and believe in treating everyone with respect," read the statement from the Florida-based chain.
