It’s probably pretty tough to get a puck past this ferocious goalie.

Sterk, a 275-pound African lion at Oaklawn Farm Zoo in Nova Scotia, has discovered playing ice hockey is his new favorite pastime.

“He’s a little older now and we’re always looking for new things to keep them entertained,” his zoo keeper, Maria Weinberg, told GoodMorningAmerica.com of the 15-month-old feline. “We took out the sticks and the ball and started shooting around on the frozen ice and he was having a blast.”

The recent frigid temperatures of about -25 degrees Celsius caused the pond in Sterk’s enclosure to completely freeze over, opening up a whole new world of potential playtime activities for the large lion.

“He’s a superstar at soccer in the summertime, but this is the first time we’ve had him on the ice playing hockey,” said Weinberg. “He loved it.”

Sterk was born in Canada and came to the zoo a year ago. His name means “strong” in Dutch, and judging by the photos of his impressive athleticism, he certainly lives up to his moniker.
