Lupita Nyong'o's Stylist Reveals Fashion Secrets
ABC News' Rachel Smith reports:
Behind every star trendsetter is their stylist, the men and women who make the red carpet red hot, and Lupita Nyong'o's stylist was just named one of Hollywood's most powerful.
The Hollywood Reporter released the names of the most influential stylists in Tinseltown, and landing in the top three on the list is Macaela Erlanger, the woman behind fashion darling and Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o.
"It's been a whirlwind, that's for sure," Erlanger, 28, told ABC News. Erlanger oversees every minute detail, from the Ralph Lauren red gown at the Golden Globes to the infamous headband on Oscar night, down to the Clarin's lip balm which was flying off shelves after Oscar host Ellen's candid moment throwing it in her "tip hat" for pizza.
"It's the little touches that a stylist can do that can take an actress from being part of the pack into really standing out," said The Hollywood Reporter's Janice Min. "Stardom is often built around fashion."
"I think the moment that really changed the game was her in the red Ralph Lauren gown," Erlanger explained. "That, to me, really solidified her as an icon, as a star."
Min agrees, calling the stunning gown "a bombshell moment in terms of fashion on the red carpet."
Even with buzz brewing about Erlanger's work, the stylist shared tips for your own personal fashion picks.
Use a camera: "Take pictures of yourself in front, side and back to see how things read."
Always think about color: "I love bold hues. People shouldn't be afraid of color."
Lastly, have a surprise: "It's got a bold design," Erlanger said while revealing the back of a dress. "It's all about having a little surprise."
