Billionaire Conservative Activist Charles Koch on 2012 Election: ‘We Have Saddam Hussein, This Is the Mother Of All Wars’

Not the White House, nor the Obama 2012 campaign, nor Democratic National Committee had any immediate comment Tuesday when contacted by ABC News and asked about comments made by Koch referring to the 2012 campaign as a repeat of the Iraq War.

“We have Saddam Hussein, this is the Mother of All Wars we’ve got in the next 18 months,” Koch said in comments at a private gathering in Colorado in June, first reported by the progressive Brad Blog  and Mother Jones Magazine. ”For the life or death of this country.”

ADD Philip Ellender, President and COO, Government and Public Affairs for the Koch Companies Public Sector, LLC, said in a statement that “Koch was not referring to President Obama in his remarks. The ‘Mother of All Wars’ is a common phrase, frequently attributed to Saddam Hussein on the eve of the first Gulf War. Amid record U.S. unemployment, continued economic decline, and loss of liberty, the U.S. has been plunged into its own ’mother of all wars.’ Our nation’s future will be determined in the coming months by the choices Americans make to address the serious economic issues facing our country.”

The billionaire brothers Charles Koch and his brother David have given tens of millions of dollars to various conservative and libertarian causes over the years. The New Yorker’s Jane Mayer wrote about them last Summer.

Earlier this year, Democrats in Wisconsin – pointing to their support for the Republican government and the conservative advocacy group Americans for Prosperity, said the Koch brothers were “the poster children of the effort by multinational corporate America to try to redefine the rights and values of American citizens,” as Democratic Representative Gwen Moore told the New York Times

Ellender also said in his statement that, “It is a matter of public record that similar seminars – all of them private and off-the-record – are held by those who seek the opposite: ever-greater government influence and control over our lives. There are reports about surreptiously (sic) recorded audio taken out of context from a June 2011 conference hosted by Koch Industries. As is typical by far-left groups, these reports attempt to make more false claims about Koch. Specifically, they assert that Charles Koch referred to President Obama as ’Saddam Hussein.’”

When reached for comment George Soros said, “that is nothing but chump change.” But don’t expect any reporting on Soros and his contributions to liberal causes.

the issue is that Obama & Co have not denounced Hoffa regarding his incendiary comment. Tea Party and Conserv public figures have no problem denouncing their kind when they use vitriolic speech.

I must have missed the part where the Koch brothers said they were going to ‘take out’ Obama.

I think it is important to point out that Americans for Prosperity was originally created (and still largely funded) by the Koch brothers. After the Tea Party took hold, AFP began (and continues) to fund many of their rallies while providing them with (mis)information. This magnificent marketing has succeeded in convincing once well meaning (Tea Party) citizens as well as our Republican officials into mirroring the monetary Libertarian campaign ticket of 1980 David Koch’s VP run. After receiving only 1.06% of the vote he decided to “supply the themes and words for the scripts” by influencing “the areas where policy ideas percolate from: academia and think tanks”.
The Koch’s successfully founded The Heritage Foundation, The Cato Institute, AFP and others which have influenced many sheep-like followers. So sad yet an ingenious plan to attain support for taking America from the people.

I see nothing wrong with Mr. Hoffa stating that we must “take out” the Tea Party officials. He was saying take them out of office and I agree. Please don’t let your imaginations run away with you. Interpretations reflect on the one interpreting not on the speaker. This is not a drama filled reality TV show and should be taken seriously without the addition of your special effects. I find your taking a simple statement and adding your own slang to change the meaning both childish and outrageous.
I am surprised that the Koch funded Tea Party campaign slogan “one term president” has been missed by you. This is Koch saying they aim to “take out” Obama. That is take him out of office.

Leann, it’s the president who lectured everyone else about a ‘New Civility’, then his second-in-command and his union boss start talking about warfare. There’s a simple reason for the hypocracy -Obama’s poll numbers are in the toilet and there’s no light at the end of the tunnel, so he’s got to shake things up. If some people get hurt as a result, he’s cool with that.

Want to take out the Koch brothers? Consider organizations like US UNCUT who are on the front lines against corporate person-hood. There is no more important fight than that, right now.

There is a class war. It’s being waged by the ultra-rich against the poor and middle class.

Cheap labor conservatives have economic blood on their hands.

G.E.’s Strategies Let It Avoid Taxes Altogether
By DAVID KOCIENIEWSKI
Published: March 24, 2011

General Electric, the nation’s largest corporation, had a very good year in 2010.
The company reported worldwide profits of $14.2 billion, and said $5.1 billion of the total came from its operations in the United States.

Its American tax bill? None. In fact, G.E. claimed a tax benefit of $3.2 billion.

That may be hard to fathom for the millions of American business owners and households now preparing their own returns, but low taxes are nothing new for G.E. The company has been cutting the percentage of its American profits paid to the Internal Revenue Service for years, resulting in a far lower rate than at most multinational companies.

Its extraordinary success is based on an aggressive strategy that mixes fierce lobbying for tax breaks and innovative accounting that enables it to concentrate its profits offshore. G.E.’s giant tax department, led by a bow-tied former Treasury official named John Samuels, is often referred to as the world’s best tax law firm. Indeed, the company’s slogan “Imagination at Work” fits this department well. The team includes former officials not just from the Treasury, but also from the I.R.S. and virtually all the tax-writing committees in Congress.

It is sort of like a war, except Koch is on the wrong side, against the working class, the middle-class and the health of the overall economy.
Just look at the mess Republican policies have made of our economy, from deregulating the banking industry (bank industry crisis leading to near Depression), lifting tariffs on imports and giving tax breaks to corporations who out-source, (huge loss of American manufacturing jobs leading to higher unemployment, individuals needing two jobs to support their families, etc as well as being responsible for our huge trade deficit with China.), and tax breaks for the wealthy (responsible for a huge part of our national debt)
The Koch brothers want to continue to increase their profits at the expense of the rest of us. Vote the Republicans out in 2012!

What I find offensive is taking an obvious call to organize and get out and vote people out – and pretending its’ a call to violence. What that does is increase the toxic atmosphere and increase the threat of violence. Surely we’ve seen from the actions of the right wing extremist in Norway that the right wing doesn’t need any more encouragement. They need to be reminded.

And we already saw the foolishness of putting cross hairs over political targets.

Again, clearly and without question in the context of voting and using your vote.

Posted by: Chuck | September 6, 2011, 6:48 pm 6:48 pm

Poll after poll shows a majority of Americans WANT to change our tax structure to help bring down the nation’s debt – unfortunately, it’s not possible with GOP House. This has been a well orchestrated national effort funded by the likes of the Koch Brothers and their bought-and-paid for Supreme Court.

The Tea Party (hatched by the Koch Brothers) freshman won in 2010 because it was a “wave election” – google that term. Historically, it’s a time when voters are upset with the status quo. Today, tables have turned again. Voters are now extremely upset about Congress’ refusal to cooperate in our nation’s best interest.

Tea Partiers who won in traditionally Democratic and swing districts will feel the wrath. But the Koch Brothers will fight tooth and nail by spending like crazy. They want the United States to replace democracy for all citizens with corporate welfare for an elite few. Just look at what they have wrought in Wisconsin or Florida.

Don’t let these John Birchers buy our elections. Vote every obstructionist Republican out of office.

I guess that’s why DSCC chair Patty Murray hit the Koch brothers up for a 5 figure donation and if they donated heavily enough, why they might even get an invite to the DEMOCRATS swanky retreat in Kiawah Island in September. Patty must have mistaken the Koch brothers for middle-class taxpayers (that would be millionaires and billionaires when it comes to donating to DEMOCRATS).

Just to correct the facts a bit, the Cato Institute is a Libertarian think tank founded by Edward H. Crane and Charles Koch of Koch Industries, in 1977. Charles’ brother is David H. Koch, who is Executive Vice President of Koch Industries and sits on the Board of Directors at The Cato Institute. Rupert Murdoch also served on the Board of Directors at Cato in 1997. The Koch brothers have also donated milions of dollars to Cato, 11 million just from 1986-1993. The Koch brothers have also helped bankroll, donating millions of dollars to, The Mercatus Center, Americans for Prosperity, Reason Magazine, the Federalist Society and the Heritage Foundation. Unlike Soros, who the right likes to bring up, the Koch brothers are secretive and have an agenda that is self-centered, completely tied to their business interests and bottom line. It involves abolishing Social Security, Medicare, all regulatory agencies, the CIA, the FBI, the social safety net, all non-corporate welfare, corporate taxation and public schools.

Just to correct the facts a little bit.

“Michelle”, if you didn’t inform yourself, that says more about you than the magical someone you’re wishing did research for you. It is unfortunate so many lies were spread by the right wing machine that includes Murdoch, and the Koch brothers. It is unfortunate more time was spent smearing than engaging in logical discourse and good journalism, but the democrat party put up two very good candidates and they were both vetted thoroughly. The same can’t be said for the GOP, then and now. Perhaps you should vet the candidates now so you won’t have the same regret some day. After all, Obama is the underdog in the next election. Wishing for something won’t make it happen.

Remember when right wingers pretended to be about self-reliance? What happened to that canard? lol.

au contraire, those of us who looked at oBama’s voting record informed ourselves and knew exactly what he was all about. Those of you who actually VOTED for the fraud got snookered by the flash and glitter and oratory and propaganda. Hope and change isn’t worth squat anymore…. but you just keep on believing.

Intelligent people don’t vote on the basis of campaign slogans or things like so called compassionate conservatism or the notion that tea party candidates would give two hoots about jobs once elected or Palin’s death panels whopper, or wink, for that matter, or Bush’s “clear skies” act or Reagan’s four pillars that he never put into place or mission accomplished, or waterboarding isn’t torture or read my lips or….. you get the idea. And yet they still vote. Because its their civic duty. And the GOP doesn’t offer up many reasonable or worthwhile candidates. McCain and Palin, seriously? Paul, Cain, Perry, Romney, Newt, really? There’s a reason Obama is holding his own despite his status as an underdog given the economy…. the GOP has become a joke. It’s sad, really, the party of Lincoln and all.

Have you read Mike Lofgren’s piece called “Goodbye to All That: Reflections of a GOP Operative Who Left the Cult?” “It should have been evident to clear-eyed observers that the Republican Party is becoming less and less like a traditional political party in a representative democracy and becoming more like an apocalyptic cult, or one of the intensely ideological authoritarian parties of 20th century Europe. This trend has several implications, none of them pleasant.”

Word! Bruce Bartlett, Mike Lofgren, Lincoln Chafee, Chuck Hagel… sensible people are leaving the party.

Just sayin’

Posted by: Kimberly | September 6, 2011, 11:28 pm 11:28 pm

Chuck, most tea party members are middle-class or lower. They are voting against their own interests when they vote for tea-party candidates. Weakening Medicare, privatizing Social Security will negatively impact them. Lowering taxes on the rich will leave states short of the funds they need to hire enough police, firemen, etc. which will also negatively impact them. Loosening banking regulations will eventually result in another banking crisis and thus economic problems, which will again affect them financially.
Tea-party people have been hood-winked into self-harm.

Posted by: Lydia | September 7, 2011, 1:07 pm 1:07 pm

If America fails, the Republicans will rejoice. This is treason. It’s is all about the rich not giving an inch as long as Obama fails. Obama has no chance of failing even if he is president for only one term. He has practically delivered most of what he promised, whether the tea baggers like it or not. I am advocating boycott of all Koch Industries products(google it and see what they are). That will teach them that the so called middle class and poor are important after all.
