Bloomberg Warns High US Unemployment Could Lead to Riots

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg warned today that public frustration over joblessness in the U.S. is in danger of boiling over and could lead to riots in the streets if the government fails to create more jobs.

“You have a lot of kids graduating college who can’t find jobs. That’s what happened in Cairo. That’s what happened in Madrid. You don’t want those kinds of riots here,” Bloomberg said on his weekly radio show, referencing the riots in Egypt that ousted President Hosni Mubarak.

The protests in Madrid that he spoke of were sparked when the Spanish government spent millions to welcome Pope Benedict despite the country’s widespread unemployment.

Bloomberg’s comments came as President Obama continues to pressure Congress to pass his $447 billion jobs bill, urging Republicans to stop the “game-playing” and put country ahead of party.

“There is no overnight solution,” Bloomberg said. “You create these problems over long periods of time and all of a sudden they say, ‘Let’s face it today.’”

The mayor did, however, give the president credit for developing a plan to boost job growth. “I think if you look at the president’s proposals, at least he has some ideas on the table, whether you like those or not. Now everybody’s got to sit down and say, ‘We’ve actually got to do something.’”

I share the great mayor’s concern that this nation may soon turn into a battlefield if unemployment doesn’t ease its grip on the throat of the American people. The key to saving the United States from unprecedented internal upheaval is, of course, to defeat Obama in 2012. Virtually any other person with minimal leadership skills and a basic understanding of economics would be capable of turning the current economic crisis around in a few months. That leaves out Bachmann.

Agreed. We have to do something. But, can we put some thought into a plan rather than simply a knee jerk political move? Infrastructure? How many bridges? Which states get the money and how much per state (red states-beware)? Who accounts for the money (please, not Biden’s website again)? Will these be union wages at say $40/hour or will the wealth be spread a little say at $20/hr (whoops…have to get by the NLRB)? Point-this sort of stuff takes months to put plans together correctly and efficiently (I know..right now everyone is just interested in throwing something on the wall and hope it sticks..it will not). Instead of a dollar amount can we see how that amount was arrived at and how and when the disbursements will begin? You know, a real plan with some real thought process..is that asking too much?

88 percent of Americans disapproved of the how Congress is doing their job. Congress, what’s it going to take? 95 percent? And then riots start? THEN will you understand that your single most important goal, making Barack Obama a one-term president, is not what the people want?

My concerns are this: WHO is the jobs bill supposed to hire? American citizens or Illegals? Whom is going to track it? With over 100,000 legal immigrants and untold illegals coming here each month, HOW are WE supposed to PUT our CITIZENS to WORK? Everywhere I look in my town, from the office building cleaners, to the school lunch preparers to the construction workers to the restaurant workers, to the nursing homes, as far and wide as the eyes can see, it is ALL illegals being hired over American Citizens…..when this….OUR Government decides to put AMERICAN CITIZENS first, not only in rhetoric but in ACTION, then I will believe that they truly do CARE about America…..right now, all I see is a lie….lies after lies after lies….now our own government is no longer going after illegals, INSTEAD they are expending their efforts on CRIMINAL ILLEGALS only….shameful! The thing is, if this country won’t stand up for its citizens, the illegals can expect the same when it is their turn to be replaced by the Chinese.

I watched this on the news and the mayor was rather casual when discussing the economy. At no point did I hear him get excited and issue warnings. He was speaking of how bad it’s gotten elsewhere and merely wondering if it could come to that here.

So why raise the age on social security?? Gonna say it and will not be popular, it is our duty, baby boomers, to retire by 62 at the very max…We have to think about the (legal) future generations. Don’t blame the kids for being upset…We had our time, now time to move over….we have had a lifetime to prepare for retirement and they, kids, need to prepare for their retirement to they may move over for the generation that will follow them…Research you candidate and vote 2012…..

The White House tells Lockheed Martian they can’t sell 66 F16s to Taiwan, an 8 billion dollar loss to our economy and the loss of 2300 jobs. I bet France has a jet almost as good and are just chomping at the bits at an 8 billion dollar jolt to their economy. Thanks obama.

The failure of Solyndra is clear. Bushes’ “Failure” with the housing issue is at least subject to debate. Congressional Banking Committee, AKA Barney Frank, should at least take half the blame.

2004: Under President Bush, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announces that it will require Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, also known as the Government‐Sponsored Enterprises (GSEs) “to increase their purchase of mortgages for low‐ and moderate‐income families and underserved communities.”

In a Bloomberg News article, Congressman Frank criticizes the new rules, saying the White House “could do some harm if you don’t refine the goals.”

In order to meet these new requirements, the GSEs begin purchasing mortgage‐backed securities made up of subprime loans.

2004: Reps. Brad Miller (D‐NC), Mel Watt (D‐NC), and Frank work to restrict predatory lending, but Republicans block their efforts. States across the country seek to beef up their own protections against predatory lending, but under the Bush administration regulators pre‐empt state consumer protection regulations of federally‐chartered banks. This prevents stronger state laws or rules regarding predatory lending at federally‐chartered institutions from having any effect.

Here is an more accurate list of who to blame for America’s woes:
the Congress, (Obama inherited most of this mess and does the best he can. Could YOU do better??????)
the Banks who messed up loans with sky high interest rates
the Mortgage companies
the GREEDY CEOs of many companies who want to live rich and kick the poor to the curb
GREED of most businesses who don’t care about everyone’s inability to afford what they are selling, thus many more businesses are closing
THANK GOD for stores like Walmart and Target who truly understand that not all people can afford what Macy’s and Neiman Marcus are selling
the HEALTH CARE System for not wanting to help those who can’t afford the cost of care or medicines because of GREED, again
oil companies who keep changing the cost of gas daily, mostly to unaffordable prices, so that people who do work can’t get to work because they can’t afford gas for their cars
UNTIL ALL GREED IN EVERY AREA STOPS, OUR CHANCES OF RECOVERY ARE ZERO

I said the same thing that Mayor Bloomberg said more then a year ago. The republican congress ran and got elected on bringing jobs to Americans and as far as I can tell it was nothing more then a colossal deception. Almost ninety percent of Americans now disapprove of how Congress is doing; so when the riots start I hope they start in Washington D.C. and the rioters go after the clowns in Congress. It’s time for a revolution since our elected leaders are not listening or helping the people that put them in office; it’s time for change.

funny how Bloomberg doesn’t sequence that he’s a big part of the reason there’s 20% unemployment. maybe if he didn’t scam the system so he could amass 16 billion dollars, more people would have money. how about re-distributing his wealth! why is he trying to bust unions and fire teachers, firefighters, etc? how are these folks supposed to live? the truth is new yorkers want to riot in the streets of nyc against BLOOMBERG!

I would only hope and pray that there are riots as long as it was the goal to oust all of government and abolish the Unconstitutional Federal Reserve and putting an end the Fascist imperialistic dictatorial regime we have in place at the moment. Yes there should be a massive uprising and Revolution to oust these Elitist imposing illegal wars and an illegal Federal income tax on our citizenship.

Who out there thinks they could be more effective at cleaning up the Bush era mess with Senate Republicans filibustering EVERYTHING, and the anarchist Tea Party dominating the House of Representatives while leaders in both those bodies have explicitly stated their primary goal is to see this President fail? I’m starting to fear that there will be riots if things don’t turn around in a hurry. My Grandfather, who weathered the great depression, always said that as long as a government can keep a population fed and entertained (distracted) it can do whatever it wants. This government’s problem is that large numbers of people are starting to have serious problems paying for things like houseing, TV, and food and are starting to pay attention to what’s going on in D.C. The problem our government has is, unlike Greece, the U.S. is a well armed population……… Things could get real bad real fast.

I am so sick of people blaming Obama. Everyone of the tea baggers and repukes have hurt this country to no end just to get rid of Obama. The repukes said they would get jobs if elected…. well? They went nuts over Obama care and guess what it has not only helped people it has created some jobs. The RICH are the problem and they are just to blind with their greed. Raise the retirement to 67? what kind of nonsense is that? I know with all the boomers at or close to retirement they will die sooner. There is something to be said about abortion. All those kids aborted when roe vs wade passed would be working now paying into social security and older americans could retire sooner. Also why does congress get so many perks? I thought it was suppose to be and honor to work for the american people? They should have all the same laws we have to live by!…. oh heck I could go on forever! Soon there will be riots just wait when there is no food or the price is so high no one will be buying much. Let the riots begin in DC hope fully they can be peaceful. But Capitalism like Communism is dead and democracy is on life support.

The “rich” are the problem? What makes people think they are entitled to someone else’s wealth? Get a job or start a business, and take responsibility. Don’t expect the government to keep you on the dole for the rest of your life. Top 10% of wage earners already pick up the largest share of the income taxes paid in this country. Enough is enough. Government can’t create jobs. Private enterprises do.

The American answer to this is not rioting but LITIGATION. Just identify the specific job to which you are entitled, then SUE the employer for not giving you that job.

Oh geese. If you look up Michael Bloomberg, he’s currently an Independent, and from 2001 to 2007, he was a registered Republican. Until, of course, Bloomberg (a REAL fiscal conservative) realized from G.W. Bush that there is no such thing as a “Republican fiscal conservative” and there’s really only “Borrow and Spend Republicans”. Michael Bloomberg was one of the smart people to leave the Republican party…. but not stupid enough to fall for that renaming of the Republican party group, called the Tea Partiers.

Then Obama is the problem. With Democratic majorities in Congress in December, he RENEWED the Bush tax cuts. He could have vetoed them, but he didn’t. He knew that not passing the cuts would hurt the economy. He just vilified them to placate his sycophants. And while he duped you, he took advantage of those tax cuts himself, saving $100,000. He knew you’d cover for him. And you did. Why aren’t you complaining that his tax rate is a paltry 27%? Speaking of greed, he made $1.7 million and his entire lifestyle is supported by taxpayers. Why hasn’t he returned the money to the IRS? HE DOESN’T NEED IT. And he continues to play you for a fool while getting wealthier and wealthier.

LOL! ……. Oh, I don’t know… our problem right now under Obama is “job growth”, not “job losses”, as is what was occurring under Bush.

Check out this “you know it’s true” data from the Bureau of Labor and Statistics:

Last year of G.W. Bush:
2008 = 2.9 million jobs lost

Last 4 months of G.W. Bush:
October 2008 = 278,000 jobs lost
November 2008 = 710,000 jobs lost
December 2008 = 744,000 jobs lost
January 2009 = 1,123,000 jobs lost

Last 2 years under Obama:
2010 = 1,246,000 jobs gained
2011 (so far) = 421,000 jobs gained

LOL!… and those are “true” numbers from the Bureau of Labor and Statistics

LMAO! ……….. I like how you use “50 years” as your measuring stick. Just to educate you there Re-publi-tard-minion, most of our debts’ “trillions” have come about over the past “30 YEARS”, not “50 years”…. and Republicans have controlled 2-of-3 of the White House, Senate and House for 60% of the time since 1981.

Some facts for you:

Debt Balance in January 1981, month that Reagan takes office = $935 Billion
NOTE –> 205 years to get to this balance

Debt Balance in January 1989, month that Reagan leaves office = $2.7 Trillion.
Increase in the debt under Reagan = $1.7 Trillion
NOTE: Reagan accumulated more debt ($1.7 Trillion) than all 39 presidents before him combined ($935 Billion balance when he took office).
Nixon/Ford (8 years) increase to the debt equals $292 Billion

Accumulation of Debt under various Presidents:
Nixon and Ford debt increase = $292 Billion
Carter debt increase = $280 Billion

Ronald Reagan (“that Republican fiscal conservative”…LOL!) = $1.7 Trillion

George H.W. Bush debt increase = $1.4 Trillion
Clinton debt increase = $1.6 Trillion

George W. Bush (Bush # 2), that other so-called, Republican ‘fiscal conservative’ (LOL!), debt increase = $4.9 Trillion

NOTICE how the huge increase in the debt occurred after Ronald Reagan (“Reagan Tax Cuts) and after George W. Bush (Bush Tax Cuts).
Republicans = The Party that so easily pushes tax cuts, and doesn’t have the “bowls” (purposely misspelled) to cut spending… that folks is how the country got in this mess.

We had a Republican Senate and Republican House for 12 years, from January 1995 to January 2007, and a straight-flush Republican White House, Republican Senate and Republican House for over half-a-decade (January 2001 to January 2007)…. Republicans = The party that cuts revenue (the “tax cuts” party), but never has the “bowls” to cut spending… thus, our $14 Trillion dollar debt.

Don’t riots usually occur during hotter months? If so, then the likelihood of a major riot is decreasing every day from now until next spring.

It would probably take an unavoidable serious event to spark a major riot in NYC in the fall and winter:

-Fight breaks out at a jobs fair, and riot police crack down.

-Benefits like subsidized housing being offered on a first-come-first-serve basis leads to a crush of people and fights.

-Benefits like food stamps or subsidized housing are cut or delayed and crowds of recipients show up to the benefits offices to demonstrate.

Maybe the Mayor should give smokers back the exhorbitant taxes he has raised since taking office and allow them to smoke in at least a fair number of establishments. Antismokers are among the chief architects of the economic downturn, when you consider that 20% of the populations has had huge amounts of their disposable income stolen by government(s); and you can’t tell me restaurants and bars and other associated industries haven’t suffered. Who is the Mayor to decide that smoking will kill more people than riot violence, economic despair, and getting fat from staying home too much. Leave (mostly poorer) people alone to have their little pleasures, stop stealing their money and watch how that helps improve the economy!

“Every….I repeat… every major economist in the world worth listening to said at the time (3 years ago) that we needed to spend more to get people working.” -CND FOX

We spent over a trillion dollars on stimulus, and it hasn’t worked. Obama had a super-majority for TWO YEARS and things are even worse than when he was elected. The only things could get this bad, this quick, is if it was done on purpose -and to try blaming the party that was virtually powerless to stop anything the democrats did is absurd.

The first trillion dollars did not work because of the practicing of Crony Capitalsim, AKA paying back major campaign contributors such as Solyndra and LightSquared just to name a few.

The second 500 million of dollars will not work either since the NET job creation will be zero. Taking the money out of the private sectors to create governmental jobs while private sector jobs will be cut by the same amount.

Obama will need the NO-SHOVEL-READY-JOBS-LA-TROISIEME-PARTIE

‘Riots’…? Some disambiguation please. London, Greece, Philly Flash-mobs, punk teens make riots. Official provocation make riots. Spain and Egypt are not convulsing…yet.

How many of the unemployed want to work, how many want to collect unemployment, how many are unemployable? Why are the newspapers and the internet full of help wanted ads? Let’s get real if people want to work they will take a job instead of sitting on their a$$ and collecting from the government. The comment about all the illegals taking US jobs is some what true because they will work, the regulations on business is pretty strong and requires employers to validate the employee has the right to work in the country. Anyone that does hire illegals usually knows it and they do it to save money for themselves, they are part of the problem.
