Way to go Obama, you followed Bush’s plan to a ‘T’.

Now try to show some gratitude and call him and thank him for his leadership.

yeah…he waited until re-election year to do this, when he said it would be done after getting elected.

Just Great. Nothing kills a market rally like an Obama TV speech.

Yep, Iran commits an act of war and we reward them with Iraq. Hope this plays to his leftwing base because that’s all it will achieve. Someone go knock on their tent and tell them the ‘good’ news.

Thank Goodness, we’ve been fighting this unjustified war for too long…..and cntrlfrk where was the gratitude when Obama caught Bin Laden. The GOP found some twisted logic and thanked Bush for it…. the TEA Party and GOP are a special bunch

There is no guarantee that (a) he will followup with this commitment any better than he has with others, or that (b) there will be “transparency” to prove that it is actually happening. But to remove more than 180,000 troops, supplies and equipment in 75 days is to invite disruption in the “democracy” that 10 years of U.S. involvement helped create. Of course, if he actually follows through, he will likely leave most of the equipment behind ensuring that 5 years from now we will see it again in use by forces opposed to us.

WOW!! The guy has done what he said he would do -which is more than Bush did with Iraq. Remember, he said that it would only be months -10 years ago. Obama has gotten Bin Laden [Bush did not even bother with him] and Al Alwaki among many others. He successfully kept US troops out of Libya while giving air support etc and having NATO take over. Once again – no credit being given to him.

Ok Obummer, make sure we pull out just in time for Al-Qaeda to take over. Mission accomplished in Libya where Obummer has murdered Kaddafi and installed Al-Qaeda as the ruling party… no onto Iraq….Obummer is nothing but a traitor to the American people! Along with all of those that support him and his cronies.

Let’s wait and see some real results. We know have a base there the size of the Vatican. The troops should come home but it’s a stretch to believe that the man who has seen more troop deaths than Bush will actually do it. We shall see.

Obama just followed Bush’s Status of Forces Agreement with the Iraqi’s (signed that day the shoe was thrown ) to the last letter EXCEPT, we’ve already been their longer than the Agreement.

Its incredible seeing and reading the right wing loons who have gotten it wrong for 10 years want to criticize the President for his success. For all those on this blog claiming Obama need to give Bush n credit for Iraq…you got it..Bush should get 100% credit for 4,200 US soilder deaths, Tens of Thousands wounded and Hundred Thousand Iraqi deaths. This President has come in and had a flawess record of taking it to those who attacked us and as Charlie says..WINNING!!! I want the right, John McCain, Lindsey Grahm, Joe Lieberman, and Conservative Pundits to keep up their criticism because it makes you look so small and elevates the President..He will win re-election becasue the Republican Party has gone from the Party of No to the Party of small..they are so petty it makes the President look even bigger..not to mention Snow Bachman and the 7 Dwarfs..who the heck would vote for any of those fools for President!

“According to a White House official, “this deal was cut by the Bush administration, the agreement was always that at end of the year we would leave.”

Actually, the complete pullout only involves Iraq based troops. While there are 180,000 men in Afghanistan & Iraq, only 39,500 are in Iraq.

60,000 + will remain in Afghanistan thru next year.

Credit? Goes to the Lord of Peace, in Jesus Christ.

Javon is ignorant about how these things work. Obama didn’t kill Osama — the Navy Seals did, pal. And they did so because several years of intelligence gathering work (you know, those things you liberals get all squeemish about) finally paid off. Obama just happened to be president when Osama was finally tracked down. But if it makes you feel better to give Obama the credit for killing Osama, feel free to stroke your ego. We in the military are used to hearing your fits, and we know the real story.

Logistically this cannot be done. There is either much more to this story or it is another Obama campaign driven falsehood and misdirection.

CNTRLFRK,

show gratitude!? for what?! first off Bush lied to us and the american people to get us into this war!!! A war with no clear goal!!! Any of those WMD’s found yet?! But we do have 5K soldiers dead!!! and a cost of billions per month. I know this because I’m a soldier who just retired after 20 years! Wow how some people are blinded by color!!!…I say this because from reading the negative blogs I sit and wonder how is this President is any worse than any of the others. Did a little research and found out he’s by far not the worst!! There are 4 others that did terrible jobs! The President is just a figure head anyway…congress is in the drivers seat.

Barack Hussein Obama and his entire administration couldn’t close a tiny prison holding a paltry 100 guys 35-miles off our own coast over the last 3 years. Does anyone truly believe he can return 100,000+ soldiers and their equipment from a war zone half way around the world in 9 1/2 weeks? Color me skeptical.

P.S. You’re welcome, Iran.

funny how folks want us (soldiers) pulled out, but didn’t have anything to say when we were sent over there KNOWING that there were no WMD’s!!! that’s why we get INTEL to make “smart” decisions. For the non military folks…it’s a little more complicated than saying “everyone pack your bags we’re going home” and sending aircraft. It floors me when someone says “why don’t they just bring the troops home”. Go join any branch of the armed forces, get deployed and pick up a weapon and see how “easy” it is to come home…before criticizing the current President and not cirticizing the one that sent us there on a lie!!!

Posted by: e | October 21, 2011, 1:17 pm 1:17 pm

Odd that in a presidential address he chose to present it as the fulfillment of a campaign promise. Explicitly.

Interesting that’s what the Commander in Chief wants to steer our attention toward.

Maybe some of your armchair general can clear up a little confusing detail for me:

IF, as many of you claim, President Obama is merely carrying out Bush II’s “master plan”, and therefore doesn’t deserve credit for pulling U.S. ground troops out of Iraq at this time, since it was already pre-ordained at the start of hostilities, then wouldn’t it follow that Bush II should also be BLAMED for handing over Iraq to Al-Qaeda? I mean, he’s the one who put this plan into place so, why doesn’t he deserve responsibility for the outcome? You-all keep saying It’s HIS plan, after all, right?

Right?

I’m not really into watching news but I am glad that the obama is going to get the troops out of iraq or iran. The troops needs to be what we were thinking about insisted of what do bush or obama do or not do. What matters is that the troops are coming home and that no more troops will have to be killed for a stupid war. I understand that we went to war to get Bin Laden. I didn’t fully understand what bush did in his term but i glad obama is in there and that democratic is in the office, sorry i’m a democratic person… I just glad someone is finishing something that should have took a couple of moth to a year not ten years…

you right wing whiners sound like a bunch of pathetic, war-mongering mf’s…under bush; 9-11 happened, war in afghanistan, war in iraq, cival liberties greatly reduced… under obama; bin laden dead, many other terrorists killed with drone strikes (no soldiers in harms way), leader of al qaeda is now the least desired job on the planet, ending the pointless war in iraq, which btw, if there was a draft to support these wars, the streets would be filled with anti war folks including you right wing twists, and hopefully ending the pointless war in afghanistan as well. what is the matter with you idiots? ending a war is a time of celebration, not condemnation! get a life losers!

TO E:, Bush didn’t know there were no WMD’s and what’s the difference, we got rid of some really horrible people (and I use that term loosely). By the way my son is a Captain in the Air Force and been deployed several times and I know that Obama didn’t know anything about Bin Laden until it was after the fact. All of the hoopla was just to glorify him. By the way my son doesn’t regret anytime that he spent over there fighting for our Country as any soldier should be. I thank you for your service and am proud that you can live to complain about Bush. Not that it matters, He was stll a better President than the sorry excuse we have now. He hates America and is trying to destroy it from the inside. What actually has he done except made it where the lazy can keep being lazy and the people that work can work harder to make ends meet so that the lazy has more money to live on. @NOFOXZONE..Flawless record my foot. He hasn’t done one thing that he promised except make it harder for the working people so the lazy can live like Kings, but then again, he has done one thing…he has taken more vacations on the taxpayer’s dollar in the years he has been in office than any other President and Bush did in his whole 8 years in office.

Patty,
Bush did know! I’m not saying this because I disagree with what he did concerning the war. I commend your son! The AF is where I served my 20 yrs. You’re mistaken, I’m not complaining at all. I read these blogs full of complaining and negativity and it makes me sick!!! Everyone complains, but has no solution! When I speak on military issues I speak of what I know, not what I think. When inspectors were sent to Iraq to look for WMD’s ..by Bush and we were not let into certain areas..we gathered intel in other ways. The status of Iraq’s WMD’s were known the reason why none were found to this day. Another thing that kills me is that people want regulation after bad things happen…like say…the home lenders fiasco…..or the sorry excuse for health care in the U.S. . If “O” hates America, then both Bush’s, G.Ford, J.Carter, Reagan and a few others did….because the job they did was less than stellar. Folks complain about paying taxes. The rich gets taxed less..blah..blah. American companies taking work overseas, but getting U.S. tax breaks makes no sense. some at least “trys” to level the field but gets stoned. Do your research on the Bush vacation thing…you’d be surprised! and as a soldier i don’t like being lied to, just tell me we are goin’ over here to kick the bad guys butt. Did you know that we also knew that Saddam didn’t have anything to do with 9/11….so why waste resources in Iraq when we should’ve been using those wasted to focus on Bin laden.

Posted by: E | October 21, 2011, 2:31 pm 2:31 pm

Patty: Nice work buying into the Plutocrat’s line of Bull: you’re so busy and distracted blaming the poor for picking your pocket, that you don’t notice the rich are stealing your job, your retirement, your health care, your future – and that of your children and grandchildren – right from under your nose. What’s even worse, is that you applaud them for doing so.

Boat Guy…Congress is where the money deals get done. $5 trillion in new debt from 2006 to December 2010 (you remember Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, don’t you). Record deficit spending by Obama. No other president comes close (FACT). Yet you’re going to blame Republicans for Obama’s mess. Does anybody on the left have any stones? Will anybody on the left take ownership? Man-up must have a totally different context for the lefty liberal class in the halls of Congress. I bet it means something entirely different to the likes of Barney Frank!

What happened in the past happened. YOU CAN’T CHANGE IT. Get over what happened.. and Obama really has no control over this. It’s congress. Osama bin Laden is dead. Anwar al-Awlaki is dead. Moammar Qaddafi is dead after this administration participated with other nations to protect Iraqi citizens, resulting in no American casualties. And now, thank god, after a decade of lost lives and wasted Trillions, we are bringing U.S. troops home from Iraq.

Imagine the conversation today if a Republican administration had accomplished these things.

Ignore the Right Wing hate – our nation needs to build jobs for returning soldiers, kids entering the workforce, and millions without jobs or underemployed. Any politician in Congress who refuses to help our country move forward by creating JOBS should be voted GONE.

Posted by: green.goddess | October 21, 2011, 4:10 pm 4:10 pm

What a lot of half-truths and out right lies in far-right comments here!
I think that the biggest one was Bush planned this troop withdrawal. Was this the same President Bush who’s head guy said the whole operation would be done in a few months? Was this the same Bush administration that ignored the U.N. inspectors who said there was no wmd in Iraq? Was this the same Bush administration who also ignored the advice from the experts from his Dad’s administration who said never invade Iraq as it would start a civil war? And whose administration sent in our troops without enough body armor or armored vehicles?

Thank you, to President Obama for withdrawing the troops, caring enough to push for finding Bin Laden, (Bush claimed it wasn’t important just 6 months after 9/11) and having us join with NATO to support the brave Libyan people fighting for freedom.
Despite the Republicans blocking important things like funding closing Guantanamo, the many jobs bills, appointments, raising taxes on the wealthy to decrease our deficit, Obama has done a lot of good.

LOL! …. First, learn to understand how your government works and get your years right. Just because Democrats were elected to congress in “NOVEMBER 2006″, doesn’t mean they were in office in 2006. The Dems took over congress when they were sworn in in “JANUARY 2007″. So your effort to try and tack on an additonal year of government spending to the Democrats by claiming “from 2006″ is bogus.

Second, during the 12-year period that Republicans controlled both houses of congress from 1995 to 2006, the national debt increased by $4 Trillion dollars… LOL! … so much for “fiscal conservative” Republicans.

The problem with Republicans is that when we put them in office, they’re very good at introducing “tax cuts” (less revenue), but they also (just like Democrats) introduce bigger government (more spending). The combination of the two is what led our debt increase rate to jump from “billions-per-president” under Carter (Carter’s total debt accumulated equaled $280 billion), to “trillions-per-president” starting with Ronald Reagan (Reagan’s total debt accumulated equaled $1.7 trillion)…. LOL! … and Reagan had a Republican Senate for 6 of his 8 years.

George W. Bush followed Reagan’s path, i.e., more “tax cuts” with growth in spending (for the wars, the new federal department, and MEDICARE Part D). With the Bush Tax Cuts (without cuts in spending), a new “debt-per-president” standard was established by George W. Bush. While Clinton’s accumulated debt equaled a figure less than Reagan’s ($1.6 trillion), G.W. Bush’s accumulated debt jumped up to $4.9 trillion…. another “higher standard” set by those “fiscal conservative” Republicans.

Anyone who thinks that the Republican solution to our debt problem is the answer (i.e., “more tax cuts”) is smoking dope.

I truly think that withdrawing all our troops is not the right thing to do. We need to learn to finish what we start and take some responsibility for our actions. Yes, it’s very sad that we’ve lost so many men and women in this war, but the one thing we don’t take into consideration is the fact that when our men and women are enlisting they know exactly what they could be facing. It’s the risk that they all knowingly take and face with great pride because they are a part of the US military. Why don’t we do our job there and make sure we’re leaving a country that is safe for it’s own citizens. They shouldn’t just be abandoned like this.

Republicans can’t seem to make up their minds. On one side of their mouth they say we need to finish our mission there which is?????? and on the other side they claim that we are spending too much money there $1 trillion and still counting (and they blame that on Obama). It’s seems that they will change their position just to be against Obama. This president has an A+ on foreign policy, Killed Bin Ladin, ousted Kadaffy without one casualty, and now, he’s made good on a campaign promise. I just wish republicans in Congress would stop obstructing his health care and jobs programs and do what he was elected to do.
