Obama Stocks Up on Candy in Appalachia

President Obama made an unannounced stop in Boone, N.C., home to Appalachian State University, this afternoon to greet supporters and stock up on candy at the Mast General Store.

With  two weeks until Halloween, the president loaded up on maple nut clusters, macaroons and York Peppermint Patties, according to the pool report. “It just goes on forever,” Obama said of the giant barrels of sweets sold by the pound.

Asked what the health-conscious first lady would think of all the candy, Obama explained that “on Halloween, she doesn’t mind.”

After satiating his sweet tooth, the president petted a small black dog, telling the owner that “Bo says hi,” before heading back outside to work the rope line and talk to students.
