Obama Wears Indonesian Garb To East Asia Summit Dinner
BALI, Indonesia — After nixing the tradition of wearing festive local garb at the APEC summit in Hawaii this past weekend, President Obama got on board at the East Asia Summit in Bali, joining his counterparts in wearing an embroidered Indonesian dress shirt to dinner Friday night.
Just five days ago, Obama explained his decision to end the practice of wearing matching costumes at APEC. “I got rid of the Hawaiian shirts because I looked at pictures of some of the previous APEC meetings and… I thought this may be a tradition that we might want to break,” he said at a press conference in Hawaii.
Obama, the first U.S. president to attend the East Asia Summit, arrived at dinner Friday in an ornate green dress shirt with orange accents. The other leaders wore similar shirts in a variety of colors.
Earlier today the president said he was pleased to be attending the summit for the first time. “This is another example of how the United States is refocusing on the Asia Pacific, and engaging more deeply in regional organizations, so we can meet our common challenges together,” Obama said following a bilateral meeting with the Indonesian president.

What I’d like to hear about is how Obama and Pelosi are the owners of the ‘occupation’, whipping up and agitating the protesters into a frenzy with their remarks. These two own the occupation ‘movement’ – no pun intended.

Every other leader at the conference dressed in the traditional garb of the host country. But dim wits like “i love god obama” are too ignorant and mentally deficient to recognize these customs and practices have been in place since 1993.
Dim wits like ‘i love god obama’ and ‘lizzie’ are representative examples of un-American citizens. They lack the ability to do nothing but criticize and fail to account for the same actions that previous leaders, both repub and dem, have been doing for almost 20 years.
Which is GW Bush, sunni or shia? Nov 2008 GW Bush is photographed wearing the traditional gard while at the APEC summit.

Obama most certainly brought us CHANGE.
From Reuters:
WASHINGTON — The number of children in the United States considered poor rose by 1 million in 2010, the U.S. Census said on Thursday, with nearly one in three of the youngest Americans now living in poverty.
“Children who live in poverty, especially young children, are more likely than their peers to have cognitive and behavioral difficulties, to complete fewer years of education, and, as they grow up, to experience more years of unemployment,” the Census said.
In 2010, when the Census survey was conducted, 32.3 percent of children across the country were poor, compared to 30.8 percent in 2009.
That was mainly due to a rise in the number of children living below the federal poverty threshold, defined as an annual income of $22,314 for a family of four, to 15.7 million from 14.7 million in 2009.

jimrod – you can have your own prayer day. But the USA, as secular republic, cannot endorse or embrace any religion or sanction religious activities. As I said, have your own prayer day. Do not expect the country to sanction the event. If you are looking for countries which sanction religious activities, how about Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Turkey, etc. And yes, England too. After all, that was one of the reasons why people fled England – to escape the religious persecution coming from the christians. Emphasis, one of the reasons.

jimrod – do some more research. The National Day of Prayer was always an unofficial event. And no, Obama did not cancel it, a federal judge ruled it unconstitutional in April 2010. And guess who was the defendant. The Obama administration was the defendant and was arguing to keep it.

“The number of children in the United States considered poor rose by 1 million in 2010″
These statistics do not prove that:
a] Obama is responsible for the rise in poverty.
b] Electing Republicans will change this trend, when all of their plans, including the Ryan Budget and Cain’s half-baked 999 plan, will put even greater burdens on the poor and those in lower income brackets.
It’s more statistical baloney being passed off as relevant.

No, “Ted”, you just don’t know what you’re talking about as usual.
Obama was born to a Muslim father. Islamic law dictates that children of a Muslim father (even a non-practicing one) are automatically Muslims. Most Muslims agree. If you renounce your birthright, Islamic law views this as treason against God. You are called a murtad fitri (the most serious form of apostasy).

No proof that Obama ISN’T responsible. Plenty of proof that he is. Look at all the oil jobs that have been hacked since he took office. These people are middle class as long as the paycheck is coming in. When it stops, poverty.

If your facts are accurate, and that’s a big IF, I never realized that so many right wing Americans were governed by Arab culture and Islamic law. I’m glad the president is an independent thinking American who clearly believes in choice and the Constitution of the United States of America.

Obama, the first U.S. president to attend the East Asia Summit,——–there you go. nuff said. He’s the first president to recognize the importance of Asia, and forming bonds there, and he’s respecting the custom. I’m seeing this as picture perfect foreign policy for this region. And he looks great in that shirt. he’s fit and trim and look good in just about anything. so…..the point is?
Posted by: GrannyNosBest | November 19, 2011, 1:09 am 1:09 am
because he identifies himself more with Indonesia than Hawai=——where do you get that? He gets to say what they wear in Hawaii. He doesn’t make a habit of wearing hawaiin shirts, the Hawaiin shirt is hardly representative of the US a whole, not even close, so it’s his country hosting, so he gets to say what he wants. he likes to dress sharp. So he gets to say so. He is not host in this country, so he blends and does as it custom, as you would expect a statesman to do. I would be horrified if he refused to wear the dress of the host country when every other world leader and frankly, as far as representing the US, I’m glad the Hawaiin shirts went. Reminds me of a college drinking party. In the US, we wear professional clothes for professional meetings. Again… I’m not only not seeing any problem, I agree with both choices.

However, this is a fluff blog entry I’m responding to (replete with a bunch of fluff nonsense from other commentators that this proves that he’s not “really” an American or such other drivel).
He’s neither a great nor a horrid president. But honestly, none of the contenders back in 2008, nor the ones lining up for the next boxing match, would have been, either.
Meanwhile, before I go back to surf news that really matters — Obama really looks great in that shirt!

NUMBERS: The Catholic church can say I’m Catholic because I was baptized one (without informed consent at about age one month). Thus maybe Muslims can say Obama is Muslim because his father was.
This in actuality neither makes ME here and now Catholic (I am NOT, and have not been for 30 years), nor Obama a Muslim.
Frankly the whole Muslim thing is a non-starter regarding Obama. I am still seriously more concerned about his involvement with the Christian Reverend Wright than this extremely vaporous Muslim connection he might have had.
