‘Occupy’ Singer Uses Obama Dinner to Serenade APEC Leaders With His Message

A young Hawaiian guitarist who performed for President Obama’s APEC reception Saturday night pulled a fast one and has posted a web video expressing amazement that he got away with it.

The performer who uses the name Makana claims that instead of performing background music for the elegant summit dinner hosted by the Obamas, he sang over and over again the Occupy anthem he had just written.

The lyrics of “We Are The Many” express distain for Wall Street and Washington: “Your thievery has left the people numb… We occupy the streets. We occupy the cause. We occupy the offices of you, til you do the bidding of the many, not the few.”

Makana even opened his suit jacket to reveal a home-made white T-shirt with “OCCUPY WITH ALOHA” handprinted on it.

On a website to support protest movements, Makana posts what appears to be a smartphone video of his performance taken from the side of the stage as the national leaders ate their dinner.

The White House declined comment when contacted by ABC News.
