US Embassy in Iran? Michele Bachmann’s ‘Oops’ Moment

Nati Harnik/AP Photo
ABC News’ Molly Hunter reports:
Did Michelle Bachmann have her “oops” moment?
In light of the British Foreign Ministry pulling all U.K. nationals out of the British embassy in Tehran after students stormed the building in protest, GOP presidential candidate Michelle Bachmann told a crowd in Waverly, Iowa, today that she would close the U.S. embassy in Iran.
One small, tiny note: The U.S. hasn’t had an embassy in Tehran since 1980. Following the Iranian Hostage Crisis, where 52 Americans were held for 444 days, the United States cut all diplomatic ties.
According to reports, Bachmann applauded the U.K.’s move, adding, “That’s exactly what I would do [if I were president]. We wouldn’t have an embassy in Iran. I wouldn’t allow that to be there.”
Recall just a few weeks ago when Bachmann bragged to Fox News that she had a squeaky clean record.
“I haven’t had a gaffe or something that I’ve done that has caused me to fall in the polls,” she said.
Tonight, the Bachmann campaign has released the following statement: “Congresswoman Bachmann is a member of the House Select Committee on Intelligence and is fully aware that we do not have an embassy in Iran and have not had one since 1980. She was agreeing with the actions taken by the British to secure their embassy personnel and was speaking in the hypothetical, that if she was President of the United States and if we had an embassy in Iran, she would have taken the same actions as the British.”

ABC is on Bachmann 24-hour watch but never notices Obama’s serial gaffes.
Bachmann has made fewer misstatements than the average politician. However, Team Obama media jackals like Oliphant have made a career of perverting and distorting her statements to turn them into gaffes. These Team Obama jackals have ignored Obama’s continual lies and gaffes, to wit:
Barack Obama said that he campaigned “in all 57 states;” that our country was founded “20 centuries ago;” pronounced Navy Corpsman “corpseman;” called “Austrian” a foreign language; and referred to “The President of Canada” and to Europe as “a country.” Speaking in Hawaii, Obama said “Here in Asia…”
There are 50 States in the USA. But there are 57 Muslim States in the world: a Freudian slip by Barack Hussein Obama.
More significantly, Obama lied about his relationship with convicted terrorist Bill Ayers, whom Obama called “some guy in the neighborhood.” Ayers was an early Obama political supporter. Obama began his campaign for the Illinois State Senate at a fundraiser at Ayers’ house.

Ok, I’m not a Bachman supporter – really I’m not (I don’t dislike her, she’s just not by choice). But, if you take out the text added by journalists “[if I were president]” then her statement, as she gave it, reads “That’s exactly what I would do. We wouldn’t have an embassy in Iran. I wouldn’t allow that to be there.” My take is she’s saying she agreed with and supports what the UK did, and is saying if another country attacked a US embassy she would do the same thing. Like if a friend’s wife cheats on him, I’d say “I’d kick her to the curb,” even though we are not married. II could be wrong, but for Bachmans faults, which she does have, she actually knows her way around foreign affairs.

And of course everybody keeps calling them “students”. Good job, this is exactly what the Iranian regime wants out of the media.
FYI : these are mostly the plain clothed Basij militia, although in the photos a revolutionary guard commander was identified too. They are the thugs funded and brain-washed by the regime, and they’re the ones who beat, raped, and killed protesters in uprisings two years ago. Some of them are indeed enrolled in universities, as agents of the regime to control the universities. Stop calling these thugs students please!

…she wouldn’t “allow it”….

I’m surprised that some of you are trying to use Obama referring to the English Embassy when he should have said British Embassy to divert attention from this incredibly stupid comment from Bachmann. They are completely different. Bachmann has once again demonstrated that she knows so very little. I’m not calling her stupid, although I believe she is, just observing that she isn’t exactly knowledgeable. Obama’s slip on the other hand is of no consequence. I sometimes say English or England when I should say British or Britain, and vice versa. Everyone I know does. I’m a Brit. A Londoner in fact.

If anyone is insinuating that Michele Bachmann is stupid for a slip up, than you are a jerk. And if you are going to criticize Bachmann’ gaffes than you need to take a look at Obama’s multiple gaffes, including the one where he said, “I need to visit all 57 states.” Obama is increasing our debt, our gasoline prices have raised, our enemies don’t respect us, including Iran, expanding federal government and dooming our country and you want to talk about Michele Bachmann’s slip up! Grow up and set your priorities straight!

Michelle, you are totally missing the point. No one denies that you can see Russia from Alaska. The point is, when Sarah Palin was asked what kind of foreign policy experience she had with Russia, her response was that she could see Russia from her state. Being able to see a country doesn’t give you any foreign policy experience with that country. It’s sort of like saying, “I think I’m qualified to be an astronaut, because I can see the moon.” It may be a poor analogy, but hopefully you get my point.

After the Shaw was tossed out entered Koheme or whatever his name was. Carter was a failure much like the one we have now. Only reason Obam would ever be re elected is the amount of big money he is spending to continue to brain wash the idiots.

Dear friends all around the world
Those who attacked the British Embassy in Tehran are NOT STUDENTS, but members of “Basij” (that is a vigilante army, supported directly by the government’s leader). If your press media are referring to them as students in, that’s because they want you to support your government to attack Iran. But please tell your people and your government (if you have the means to) that this is not what the people of Iran want, and this is not what they are.

Please stop trying to defend Bachmann by throwing rocks at Obama. If you want to have an intelligent debate use her good points as a defense. Its petty and childish to try to make her look good by bringing down someone else. Do you suppose you drag Obama into it because you really can’t defend her any other way? Remember we pay her salary. We are the taxpayers. It scares me that someone this stupid is in a position of authority! I think everyone needs to realize that most politicians, regardless of party affiliation, are out of touch with reality on how tough times are here in the U.S. They don’t care!
My only comment is for everyone to get out and vote for whomever!

My concern with Bachmann is her views on cutting disabled veterans benefits.
Why are these elected officials so willing to cut SSecurity which elderly have paid into and veterans benefits for those that paid the price to defend this country and not attack welfare, food stamps, and other give away programs that for 53 years has only given illegals and generations of Americans a way of life which cost billions to tax payers?
Bachmann sided with Obama in wanting to cut disabled veterans benefits ,stating “they live to good,”none of these elected officials have worn the uniform of this country, but is always willing to sacrifice veterans.
Write your elected officials and say no to cutting veterans benefits, and Social Sec.

“angel wrote:”This is a new version of the republicans with foreign policy experience: “You can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska””
.
In the Bering Strait there are two islands. Big Diomede is in Russian territory. Little Diomede is part of Alaska. At their closest points they are about two and a half miles apart. Anyone not blinded with partisan bias would be able to see Russia from land in Alaska.”

The point isn’t that whether or not one can see Russia from land in Alaska. The point is whether or not being able to see Russia from land in Alaska equals having foreign policy experience. Anyone not blinded with partisan bias would realize that.
