Romney-Backing PAC Ties Gingrich to Abortions in S.C.
Restore Our Future, the powerful so-called super PAC supported by Mitt Romney, is still trying to drag down Newt Gingrich, at least in South Carolina.
Two flyers paid for by Restore Our Future that appeal to the anti-abortion crowd have landed in the mailboxes of Republicans in South Carolina. Religious voters are expected to make up a significant portion of the Republican primary in the state on Jan. 21.
One of the flyers says: "Fact: A conservative would not give 60 million taxpayer dollars a year to the United Nations Population Fund, which supports China's brutal one-child policy. Fact: Newt Gingrich did."
The other says: "Newt Gingrich co-sponsored a bill with Nancy Pelosi to give $60 million annually to the UN Population Fund. According to CatholicVote.org and the Southern Baptist Convention, the UN Population Fund works with Chinese officials who force abortions. While serving as Speaker of the House, Gingrich backed even more legislation that provided taxpayer-funded abortions. As you vote, remember the facts: Newt Gingrich is 'thoroughly anti-conservative.' - George Will"
Gingrich has routinely complained about the Romney PAC spending millions of dollars in advertising to knock him down. Though in an ad approved by Gingrich, Romney is portrayed similarly as a supporter of abortions.
"Romney appointed a pro-abortion judge, expanded access to abortion pills, put Planned Parenthood on a state medical board but failed to put a pro-life group on the same board," a narrator says in the ad. "And Romney signed government-mandated health care with taxpayer-funded abortions."
