Obama to Benefit From ‘Special Interests’ Via Super PAC

The Obama campaign has framed its about-face decision to support a pro-Democratic super PAC as an effort to counteract “unlimited money from special interests,” particularly corporations, allowed in the wake of the Citizens United Supreme Court decision.
But it’s important to note that Priorities USA Action can and does receive money from pro-Obama “special interests” of its own, most notably labor unions. The contributions are also made possible by the 2010 Citizens United decision.
Service Employees Union International (SEIU) Committee on Political Education – a traditional PAC – has given $1 million to Priorities USA Action so far this election cycle, according to the Federal Election Commission.
The American Association for Justice – a trial lawyers PAC – gave $50,000 last year, records show.
The contributions, and those likely to follow, mean Obama’s decision to encourage Priorities USA Action also indirectly reverses his much-touted refusal to accept financial support from traditional PACs.

Cynic, are you aware that military officers attempted to dictate to Catholic chaplins the content of the Catholic liturgy last week? That they attempted to supress a message from the Archbishop of the Military Archdiocese to Catholics in the Armed Forces attending Mass? This is pure and simple an attempt to establish a state religion, an action that is clearly unconstitutional.

Yeah but yesterday Super PACs were bad. I can see the unprecedented sanctamonious grandstanding at the SOTU address in my minds eye right now. What a total narcissistic hypocrite.

The President is using super PACs, what an outrage. Do you expect him to surrender to the republicans?
Don’t forget it was the conservative controlled Supreme Court who made the stupid decision that if they stopped the buying and influencing of our political system by PACs the 1st amendment was violated. The worst decision in the history of the court since Dredd Scott.
The republicans made the rules, now they want to be the only ones that can use them.

The Republicans have been using PACS to anonymously attack Democratic candidates and now they’re whining about the Democrats intending to use the same PACS. I call that hypocrisy.
If someone is shooting at you with a gun, it’s completely understandable you chose to decide to get your own gun – only the limited thinking abilities of the Republicans allows them to crow arrogantly and hypocritically and strut around pretending they’re superior – its about all they’re good for.

Everybody knows Obama is a Marxist. He can’t hide from that anymore. Democrats are socialists. I wonder if Bertha Lewis will support the Marxist. The Marxist doesn’t play by the rules, he ignors them. He is using plays from the book of Marx and the book of Alinsky. The end justifies the means huh Mr. President?

Sarah (5:52 PM); The issue is how Obama was all indignant about it, and now does what he sanctamoniously decride the decision at the SOTU address, basically in the face of the S.C. justices….No Republicans said he couldn’t do it also. They’re not saying they can and he can’t. You missed the whole point. And what’s the “struting around all superior” thing? You sound like an adolecent.

The President was right in both cases. Right to find the ruling objectionable (so did 4 or the 9 Supreme Court judges) and right to go ahead now and operate by the same PAC rules as the Republicans.
So much for your attempt to frame this in some hypocritical way.

What’s good for the is goose is good for the gander. I applaud the President for taking the super pact money.
I just don’t want him to use it for negative ads. Now for the Catholic Church enraged concerning
health care for woman, until they get enraged concerning divorce, and moving priest from Parrish
to Parrish after molesting children and not sending them to jail as other molesters go, I think
they should just deal with it. No religion has jurisdiction over my body.

He didn’t flip flop at all. If I object to a certain new traffic rule and speak strongly out against it, that doesn’t mean it isn’t perfectly logical and natural to play by the rules established and follow law once its put in place. I’d be a fool not to. And it doesn’t mean I can’t still fight to have that law changed.
Posted by: Sarah | February 7, 2012, 8:26 pm 8:26 pm
Sarah; So you think Obama will fight to change the law? I predict he won’t fight it very hard. Watch.

And I also agree with the President that the negative attack ads of the Republicans through PAC lower the quality of the democratic discussion, increase antagonism and contribute to more extreme polarization and demonization. That said, the Republicans should watch out – they may be about to receive some of their own medicine.

He won’t have the opportunity until the Democrats again have the majority in the House and the Senate. The Republicans LOVE the PAC ruling because it allows them to operate under the table and smear people without having to show their faces – they won’t be voting to change it. It’s their style.

Pointing fingers is the least of what the President does.
Over 50% of Americans now APPROVE of the job the President is doing. Close to 4 million jobs have been added since Obama’s policies hit full stride. Oil production in the country is up. Green energy production in the country is up. GM is back at the #1 car company in the world! Third shifts are being added at automotive plants. Bin Laden is dead. Kaddafhi is gone. Many, many al Qaeda leaders are gone. Nuclear inspectors are back in Iran. The stock market has gone up hugely since Obama’s policies began to kick in. This is a top of the line administration.
Had Bush or any Republican accomplished all of this in 3 years, the right wingers would be creaming their jeans and calling him one of the greatest presidents of all time. Trouble is – it isn’t Bush – it’s Obama – and right wingers are biased hypocrites .
Isn’t that the truth.

You might not know it by watching Fox all the time, but the President has been making numerous proposals to create jobs and get the economy growing again. However since they don’t include more massive tax giveaways to corporations and guys like Mitt Romney, and stripping away government services and protections for working class Americans, the Republican controlled House has been stonewalling almost all of them.
