Santorum: ‘Phony Theology’ Referred to Obama’s ‘World View,’ Not His Religion

Rick Santorum sought to clarify and contextualize his charge that President Obama operated under a “phony theology,” saying today that he was not suggesting the president was not a Christian. Santorum said he was condemning Obama’s “world view” not his religion.

“I accept the fact that the president is a Christian,” Santorum said on CBS’ “Face the Nation.” “But when you have a world view that elevates the earth above man and says we can’t take those resources because its going to harm the Earth, it’s just all an attempt to centralize power and give more power to the government.”

Santorum said that while Obama believes “man is here to serve the Earth,” he believes “Earth is not the objective. Man is the objective.”

The rising GOP presidential candidate also said that Obama is promoting abortion by forcing insurance companies to provide co-pay-free pre-natal testing under the new health care law.

Santorum said that because the “purpose” of the test is to “identify deformities,” it leads to more abortions because more often than not doctors recommend that parents terminate the pregnancy if the child is disabled.

“Almost 100 percent of Trisomy 18 children are encouraged to be aborted, so I know what I’m talking about,” Santorum, whose daughter has the genetic and often fatal disorder Trisomy 18, said after a heated exchange with host Bob Schieffer.

Scheiffer asked Santorum if he thought the Obama policy discriminated against people with disabilities by trying to prevent them from being born.

“I think the president has a very bad record on abortion and children who are disabled in the womb and are a continuation of that,” the former Pennsylvania senator said.

…well, rick, I will say it for you………first, let’s not toss the word “theology” around so freely…..not in the President’s vocavulary, but it does get us back to the basic quesstion of 4 years ago….is he Christian………….never see him in Church, do you?

Rick and Joey, CHRISTIANITY IS NOT a prerequisite for being the President in America!! With that said, many Christians make the claim that Catholicism is a cult and a “phony theology”. Rick Santorum’s comment sounds a bit to me like many born again Christians would believe the pot is calling the kettle black.

Posted by: dan | February 19, 2012, 1:34 pm 1:34 pm

Rick, “theology” means, literally, the study of god. To accuse someone of “phony theology” and then say it has nothing to do with religion – his view of god – is simply a flat out lie. You want the bible thumpers on your side. You want the lunatics who still believe that Obama was not born in the US and is a Muslim on your side. You want to appeal to the smallest of small minds, which is why you charged the President with a “phony theology” in front of a Tea Party crowd. Have the ‘courage’ of your prejudiced convictions, or at least stand by your own statements.

Wow Santorum – you say one thing, claim you mean another and then you come out and contradict yourself. Is it get rough trying to live in this absolute world you created for yourself? If people vote for you, they can’t be too intelligent. I’m sorry, but you need to leave your church preaching in your church and the government business in the government. You seem to confuse the two.

I presume he’s not a Christian;in fact, I believe he’s an atheist, — which is irrelevant. He has photo-ops of going to church with his family just for the “dim-wit vote” which every politician needs. Wearing the flag lapel-pin, holding the hand over the heart at harmonies, etc…. The dim-wit vote will make a difference, and every politician needs it. But for Santorum, it’s his base.

St. Johns is a charming historical church within walking distance from the White House. For those not paying attention, the first family has attended services there.

Otherwise, is there a specific rule requiring a believer in the teachings of Christ to attend church for a specific number of days out of every year? What happens to those who don’t meet the required number of days – are they not Christian enough? Just curious to know if church attendance will be part of the Republican “freedom” and “small government” platform this year.

What happened to the belief that we should be good stewards of the earth and all the resources God has blessed us with? The Christian church I attend promotes stewardship. If we take care of our planet, it will, in turn, provide for us.

Hey SK_S, There is NO SUCH THING as the Christian Taliban. Taliban says death to those who oppose Islam and they backed it up by wreaking carnage on 3000 innocent men, women, and children. And in their own country they governed with death and torture, and made the females stay in the kitchen barefoot and pregnant. Christianity absolutely doesn’t do that. Christianity is what gave women equal standing before God as men. Christianity is based on men being equal before their creator, and that is what led to the US Constitution. If you’d put down your communist Nazi-tactic textbook from your communist Nazi-tactic college professors, and read real history, that is something written 40 years ago or more, then you might see that civilization based on Christianity and man’s love for his neighbor led to Western civilization and USA. It was threatened by Islam (700 to 1490 AD), then godless “enlightenment”, then the Hun, then pagan occultic Nazi-ism. There is no Christian Taliban. You’re making stuff up.

Just when we thought this brilliant boy Rick, w/ JD/MBA degrees would talk a lot of sense, he suddenly blurts out not just platitudes, but pure rubbish peppered w/ contorted and twisted theological tenets, better understood by himself. We have a platitude for him. This a diabolic demagoguery. He is even surpassing Newt, these days. The thought of him being in the white house is terrifying. We wish he faded away.

LOGIC it’s clear these people wish to apply the same anti women’s rights nonsense here in the US in the name of Christian. It looks very Taliban. There is no doubt these people wish to see women here barefoot and pregnant.

Posted by: lexingtonlady | February 19, 2012, 2:17 pm 2:17 pm

The idea that church attendance means you are a better Christian is malarkey. It is how you treat others, whether you respect yourself and your family.
I don’t know what is stranger in Santorum’s thinking, that he doesn’t know what theology means, that he thinks plundering and harming the beautiful earth God made us is a good idea or that co-pay free prenatal testing is a bad thing. (If someone would have a hard time coming up with a co-pay, they definitely don’t have the resources to take care of a severely disabled child.)

n 1797, the United States Senate ratified a treaty with Tripoli that stated in Article 11:
As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquility, of Mussulmen; and, as the said States never entered into any war, or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties, that no pretext arising from religious opinions, shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.
SO please…all of you right wing bible thumpers, QUIT ASSOCIATING RELIGION WITH THE CONSTITUTION. Some thing to keep in mind, just as we have freedom of religion, we also have freedom FROM religion.

Hey LEXINGTONLADY … Au contraire, you’ve been lapping up your leftist propaganda. How ’bout considering that Bill Clinton darling of the left wrecked Monica Lewinsky’s life with his moral failure, with the leftist judges being appointed by Bill Clinton andBarack Obama, America’s schools will be filled with pro-lesbian curriculum, leading many females to lesbian ways, the leftist/Bolsheviks love abortion which is the baby-killing which harms women physically and emotionally. So, Christianity is all about life and joy in Christ, in living in the way which God has established for people as the right way. The leftist/Bolshevik way is the way of harm.

Like Santorum I have a daughter with a disability. Pre natal testing would have helped me prepare and educate myself for what was to be. Disagree with him that it most always leads to an abortion and even if that is the case then I also feel that it is a couples right to choose. I also agree with a previous post that government and religion should stay separate. This country was founded by people who suffered religious persecution and who wanted freedom of religion whether that be Christianity, Jewish, Muslim or whatever! People like Santorum scare me because their “world view” is so limited. I too would not feel safe if he were in the White House. I do not see him as a leader for all.

Posted by: Annette King | February 19, 2012, 3:39 pm 3:39 pm

It seems to me Mr. Santorum that you have fallen off the pedistal you have put yourself on. You said you would campaign better than the rest of the pack but you have not. Where do you or anyone else have the right to be judgemental on someone’s christianity and values? It seems you missed the part in the Bible that says…Judge not least you be judged yourself…..You pontificated against the tactics of Mr. Paul, Mr. Romney and Mr. Gingrich but to me you are the worst. Mean, judgemental and unfair. You had an opportunity to show your christianity when the lady in the audience said to you that President Obama is a Muslem and that he is president illegally and what can we do. Your reply could have been (if you were a true christian) should have been Mam, he is not a Muslem and while I don’t agree with his policies…and I am trying to get him out.(which you did say) but he was elected into office. It appears to me that you put your Christianity aside for one vote and that makes you, in my opinion, worse than the others. Your stand against women’s rights is well known as you feel women should not work or be in part of the service and should not use contraceptives. Well, if you speak to a doctor…they use contraceptives for many other reasons on women’s health care, cysts, endometriocis and other female problems but your feeling is ban it completely. And you have the nerve to accuse the president of too much involvement in people’s lives? What about you…you are entering into a person’s private and personal lives right into their bedrooms. Good luck getting female votes.

If you want to see a follower of Jesus Christ in action, listen to Tim Tebow (for example). He’s unapologetic and fearless about his faith. No one believeable would ever characterize Obama in the same way. As to Annette King fearing those with a limited “world view”, it’s the “world view” that’s dangerous! We’re ALL THE SAME. There are MANY GODS. Do what feels good. Marriage is for puritans. Opposite sex marriage (as God designed and intended) is for religious zealots. Would you rather live in the morals of the U.S.A. of the 1950s (Father Knows Best, Leave it to Beaver) or of these days with the likes of Jersey Shore, The Real Stupid Housewives of Podunk USA, and Reality Show X, Y and Z? Doesn’t seem to me the age of the baby mama and unprecedented numbers on food stamps is the wave of the future (nor is it desired by anyone outside the Democrat rank and file). What do you think?

Stop spewing this baseless nonsense and realize those from the left want to give freedoms to all, while the right wants to control them. There are gays in the military that protect your rights and freedoms and the sooner you accept their equality, the sooner we will again be a great country.

Dont forget domestc issues as well three years ago, President Obama signed his infamous stimulus package into law. In exchange for $1.2 trillion (including interest), liberals said their plan would bring the unemployment rate down to about 6% today. It hasn’t fallen below 8% at any point in the last 36 months. There has been a recent drop, though, which some Democrats claim as proof that their stimulus plan finally worked. But if that’s true, then where are the jobs? As more and more people have learned recently, the official unemployment rate doesn’t actually count.

Ephesians 4:29

Amplified Bible (AMP)

Let no foul or polluting language, nor evil word nor unwholesome or worthless talk [ever] come out of your mouth, but only such [speech] as is good and beneficial to the spiritual progress of others, as is fitting to the need and the occasion, that it may be a blessing and give grace (God’s favor) to those who hear it.

How, exactly, does President Obama show contempt for America? I honestly don’t get where this idea comes from. I do not believe that he is a Muslim, but if he is, what does that matter? There are many, many other religions in this country other than Christianity and we are fortunate enough that we have the freedom to participate in whatever religion we see fit. And NONE of those religions have a place in government. I couldn’t care less if the president was Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, or whatever – as long as he or she doesn’t try to push that religion on the people or attempt to inject that religion into the government.

His mission in life is to turn the once great USA into a place like Yugoslavia, or Spain. America did not want a godly president, so that’s what they got, a demonic goverment. Santorum: ‘Phony Theology’ Referred to
Obama’s ‘World View,’ Not His Religion

i have a question for candidate
SANTORUM ?

how CHRISTIAN were the hundreds
of CATHOLIC priest who molested

and sodomized thousands of young boys ?

how CHRISTIAN were the BISHOPS who
covered up these child molestation’s ?

how CHRISTIAN were the CARDINALS
who attacked the victims as not being
GOOD CHRISTIANS themselves ?

how CHRISTIAN were the church parishioners
who accepted church propaganda .

instead of demanding that the church open
it records to decide the legitimacy
of these criminal allegations ?

and finally where did SANTORUM stand .

did he chose to protect his church at all cost ?

or did he chose to protect the children ????

these are legitimate questions for a candidate
who would question another’s theology !!!!

Hey GreenGoddess, check you data and you will see that “mean-spirited” describes the leftist/Bolsheviks perfectly, just like Mr. Gladney selling momentos at the event in 2009 who was assaulted by SEIU thugs, and they put him in the hospital. Trial later acquitted the thugs even though there Mr. Gladney sits stuck in a wheelchair, but of course if it was Rodney King the InJustice Department would have gone in and overturned whatever they do laid waste to the beaters. Richard Trumka says he and his union are Obama’s “army”. Look at Arizona Governor Brewer greeted Obama and he hollered at her and turned his back to her and walked off in the middle of her response. Rude rude rude thug. He is disrespectful to everybody but fellow leftists. He is the most divisive, mendacious president ever. Look at Occupy Wall Street and how much threatening language toward violence they spouted (unreported by CBS etc.). Leftist Bolsheviks are the “mean-spirited” ones, time and again.

I once saw Pat Robertson in a restaurant. He had a shrimp coctail appetizer followed by lobster for his main course. So for all of you biblical literalists this one is for you. Since Leviticus is your favorite to cherry pick from, read on.

Leviticus 11:9-12
These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat. And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you: They shall be even an abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, but ye shall have their carcases in abomination. If these republicans were really the “Christians” they claim to be they’d be terrified of the wrath of God because of the way they’ve mocked Him. The only thing “phoney” is their world view of everything and everyone who doesn’t subscribe to their ignoranct and childish antics. Republicans are an embarrassment to America. Nobody tells more lies than Rush and Hannity but zealots on the right love to believe and quote them. Then, they call Obama a liar without being specific. They also criticize his use of telepromptors but ignore them when GOP candidates used them at the CPAC. These double standards prove that they are simply bigots trying desparately to justify their deep racism against a black POTUS.

Green Goddess: So, you want Obama to commit political suicide by giving conservatives an issue they can hang around his neck like an albatross. What world are you living in? Many minorities would like special attention to their problems but don’t want to see Obama lose the election because of their singlemindedness This nation is very divided (or haven’t you noticed?) . PS- All the things Obama is dealing with affect the lives of everyday people and he is not the US dictator. Grow up and realize that he can not eliminate bigotry. If the Republicans could ever manage to be a party as concerned with fiscal responsibility as they claim (or used to claim) I would probably vote for them. But to do that they would have somehow untie themselves from the religiously obsessed and anti-science/educationally wackos who insist they spend all of their time and effort arguing religion. Unfortunately they have courted that ilk for so long it’s pretty much all they know. Neither party has any claim to fiscal responsibility but at least when the Democrats go on a crazy spending spree the money seems to stay in the country instead of propping up countries like Iraq.

Posted by: glacia | February 20, 2012, 12:26 am 12:26 am

Wow! I haven’t seen this much off the wall baloney in years. First, based on my reading of the Constitution (which is a hobby I began when recovering from surgery several years ago) the religion of any candidate ( whether a sitting President or candidate from another party) has no bearing whatsoever on the appropriateness or qualifications of the candidate. A lot of evangelicals either don’t know this, or choose to ignore it. The GOP’s biggest problem right now (and that of several posters) is that they suffer from monomania and myopia. In spite of the posts that look as though they were written by the late Senator Joseph McCarthy, the real problem is twofold: The RNC gave us the weakest candidate list that I have seen in the 50 years that I’ve been voting in presidential elections (BTW: I voted solid Republican from Eisenhower through McCain, and only regretted one vote – that for George W Bush.) The GOP’s second major problem is its constituency; it’s given too much power to extreme right wing elements. I was a successful corporate executive for almost 50 years, 25 of them as CFO of several corporations, large and small, public and private, running employee groups of up to 500 people, and what my experience has taught me is that extremists never get anything accomplished. They don’t want to, or don’t know how to negotiate. Well, guess what, a major underlying principle of the US Constitution is that laws are to be negotiated by elected officials in the Legislative Branch. Look at the recent “symbolic” vote of the House Republicans to not allow an increase in America’s debt limit. Do these ignoramuses know that without an increase, the US would have to default on payment of legal and contractual obligations. If America did that, we would end up with the same type credit rating as Greece or Italy, and the Treasury would end up paying hundreds of billions of dollars in increased interest costs. That, in turn, would require an enormous increase in the taxes paid by every individual and company in America.

Remember, under our Constitution, the president is not a monarch, and neither branch of the Congress can do anything unilaterally. So, what does America need in Congress? Centrists, who are either conservative, or liberal leaning. People like Dwight Eisenhower, who was a conservative leading centrist who got things done. If the GOP doesn’t change its constituency, it is on its way to irrelevancy. It will lose the 2012 elections for president and both chambers of Congress by a landslide similar to that of Barry Goldwater’s loss in 1964. Remember you read it here first.

Apparently the best Santorum can do is stir up paranoia among the ignorant. He, of course, would not consider himself among that group, but he certainly is if he thinks the earth is here to serve man. Genesis 2:15 says, “The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden TO TAKE CARE OF IT.” HE didn’t say, “Rape the earth. Abuse it. Do whatever you want.”. God is smart enough to know man can’t survive if he ruins the earth. Too bad Santorum hasn’t figured that out. I am an independent but I cringe to think that a theological nutjob like Santorum would get into office. Lord, help us.

Today, Presidential candidate Santorum has not been pressed to answer questions about his involvement in this scandal, but he does continue to say he is a fighter for Christian values. Someone should do a little bit of research and inquire if participation in what amounts to bribery, fraud and ‘pay to play’ politics is a Christian value.” Others have gone to jail for tactics like this. Since there is no such thing as a “real god”, Santorum’s “point” is irrelevant. Santorum simply made up a line about Obama: “But when you have a world view that elevates the earth above man and says we can’t take those resources because its going to harm the Earth, it’s just all an attempt to centralize power and give more power to the government.” This is a purely made up fantasy by Santorum. One hundred percent fabrication on his part, based on nothing. He’s talking like a true GOP front-runner now: making up crap, then spinning out an explanation because his original statement was ‘controversial’. His idiot base eats this stuff up like crack. It’s funny: when a self-proclaimed ‘Christian’ has to resort to making up lies about his opponent, you KNOW he doesn’t have anything substantive of his own to run on. But I always thought there was some commandment somewhere about ‘thou shalt not lie’. Guess Santorum skipped that class in Sunday school.

If we do not take care of the earth, we will destroy it and ourselves. THAT is why we must be not the users of the Earth , but its protectors. As for his idea that NO prenatal tests be paid by insurance and that the doctors try to have people abort “abnormal” children, Mr. Santorum is fortunate that he has excellent insurance and financial ability to care for a child with a severe birth defect like Trisomy 18, or Downs. I have a Downs niece and the financial, emotional and societal expense is devastating to say the least. Many people cannot handle it so they abort. There are very few options for their education. Once they reach 21, there are even fewer options. Many end up at home. Families are often ruined. States do NOT, for the most part, have the resources either.

We already have had this strong centralized government versus a weak central government twice before. And a strong central government won both times. First time, during the constitutional convention where they adopted the Articles of Federation over the Articles of Confederation. Then the second time, was the great schism of the Civil War. Which really was a battle over the role of government.

Looks like you’ve been watching way too much Superman II, and can’t distinguish Obama from the fictional character Zod. santorum’s a creepy weirdo with wacko views. this fact, however, in no way undercuts the theory that obama’s a phony because he is a phony. he’s one of the biggest phony baloney windbag politicians i’ve ever seen, and that’s saying a lot considering the list of lying loser politicians i’ve witnessed in my lifetime. and obama has only himself and his campaign advisers to blame. he sold himself as some super-human candidate who was not only going to fix everything that was wrong with america, but as one who would transform the world. i know his supporters hate hearing it and try to deny that he ever did it, but he’s the one who talked about the seas receding, the earth healing, and all that other lofty nonsense against the backdrop of the fake parthenon or whatever it was, but it’s all documented and readily available to watch online. obama was so naive that he actually believed all that nonsense, but once he was in office the rubber of his rhetoric hit the road of reality and he suffered a near fatal blowout, at which point he had to come to terms with reality and start acting like every other politician before him, willing to do anything to retain office. the president that candidate obama promised to be morphed into everything that candidate obama opposed. again, this is in no way and endorsement of santorum, who is beyond the pale of ridiculous, but as they say, even a blind pig finds a truffle now and again, and santorum correctly sniffed out obama’s phoniness.

1. The Repubs believe that Dems are lazy and live off Gov. handouts-the repubs believe they have the answer-

2. (1. Do away with SS)-
(2.Do away with Medi Care)-
(3.Do away with Medicade)-
(4.Do away with Minumum Wage)-
(5.Do away with Unions)-
(6 .Do away with Child Labor Laws)-
(7.Do away with Wall-Street & Corporate Regs)-
(8.Give Huge Tax Cuts to the wealthy and Corporations)-
(In the eyes of the Repubs (this is a boot up-but really its a boot in the rear-

Norquest for President (we need a President that the Repubs are loyal too—and they already swore an oath to this man (I wander if their oath to Norquest -supersedes their oath to the American people

Is this man stuck on stupid? Perhaps he should look up the term “theology”. And as far as “world view”, because the president’s is perhaps different from his, that makes it phony? No, it makes it differtent from his. Geez.

That can also be said about a woman or a minority or a gay person or a student or a senior citizen or a middle class person………

disgusted with GOP, you should be disgusted with the republicans, but for heaven’s sake don’t expect the democrats to be any better. they’re both rotten to the core.

“Obama has the same world view of most muslims who grew up in a christian country and were indoctrinated into the fallacies and absurdities of the marxist left at university. Not as complicated as some would have it.”

“Bingo. And this explains his barely-disguised contmept for his own country. And this contmept he has for America is why he should have never been elected.”

“You mean something roughly analogous to Obama’s constant and laughably clunky class warfare demagoguery? Your sense of honesty escapes me. LOL.”
POSTED BY: JACK KNIFE
Obama does nothing but “stir up paranoia among the ignorant”, and among those who do know better, but who are too dismally dishonest to admit it.

Still no one has given me a good answer to my earlier question as to why Obama doesn’t focus on real issues for real people, such as the many issues facing the gay and lesbian comunity. Instead he has to spend all of his time, when he’s not on superfluous vacations, defending his indefensible runaway spending.
