70-Year-Old Senate Candidate Does 50 Push-Ups

Michelle Obama's "Let's Move" campaign might consider a new spokesman: Tommy Thompson, a 70-year-old Senate candidate who was the 42nd governor of Wisconsin, did 50 push-ups in a Web video posted by Journal Sentinel Online.

Thompson, who served in the Wisconsin National Guard for six years and the U.S. Army Reserve for four more, and was the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services under President George W. Bush, showed that he didn't leave his knack for health and fitness behind.

In the video, he let his prospective constituency see that he has the brains and the brawn to capture the senatorial seat of Wisconsin - and it seems to be working. According to a new Marquette Law School poll, the former governor holds an 8 percentage point lead - 28 to 20 percent - over businessman Eric Hovde in next week's Republican primary for U.S. Senate.
