Obama Taps Star-Power for Campaign Cash in Final Stretch
After a whirlwind month consumed by swing state campaigning and the Democratic National Convention, President Obama is back on the money trail next week for another round of star-studded New York City fundraisers, featuring Beyonce and Jay-Z.
The president will head to the Big Apple on Tuesday, Sept. 18, when he is expected to headline an intimate 100-person event at the rapper's 40/40 Club near Madison Square Park in Chelsea, his campaign announced today.
Tickets are $40,000 per person, according to the New York Post, which obtained a copy of the invitation. The paper reports that Obama will also attend a second high-dollar event earlier in the evening.
Both Beyonce and Jay-Z have been public advocates for the president's re-election, appearing at campaign fundraisers and in campaign web videos and plugging a second Obama term at concerts this summer.
Obama's last campaign fundraiser was Aug. 22, a basketball-themed evening in New York City dubbed the "Obama Classic" that was co-hosted by NBA legend Michael Jordan.
The president has attended 19 fundraising events on nine visits to New York in 2012, making it his most-visited state of the election campaign.
Meanwhile next week, three other celebrities backing Obama will be busy courting campaign cash abroad.
Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour, actress Gwyneth Paltrow and designer Tom Ford will host a fundraiser for Obama in London on Sept. 19, according to an invitation obtained by the Sunlight Foundation.
Tickets for the dinner at Mark's Club - a members-only dining club in Mayfair - start at $15,000 per plate up to $40,000 to be a member of the host committee.
Wintour is one of Obama's top campaign financiers, bundling more than $500,000 in contributions for his re-election campaign and co-hosting several elite fundraising events, including a June dinner at the New York City home of actress Sarah Jessica Parker.
