The Washington Post's David Nakamura and Robert Barnes: " Obama officially begins his second term" Barack Hussein Obama officially began his second term as the 44th president Sunday, setting the stage for him to lay out his vision in an inaugural address on the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. More than half a million people are expected to watch from the Mall, four years and a day after the nation's first African American president was sworn in the first time. President Obama, joined on Sunday by a dozen family members, recited the 35-word oath of office administered by Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. in the Blue Room of the White House. LINK

Politico's Jonathan Allen and Emily Schultheis: " Inauguration 2013: Obama's King moment" When President Barack Obama looks west across the national mall from the Capitol on Monday, his panorama will include the spot to the right where contractors are building the National Museum of African American History and Culture by the foot of the Washington Monument. The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial will be to his left, obscured from sight but not from mind. And, directly in front of him - across a sea of people who come to hear his second inaugural address - Obama will have a view of the Lincoln Memorial, the Doric tribute to the president Obama most identifies with and the backdrop for King's most famous civil rights speech. With his family at his side and his hand on his wife's family Bible, the 44th president began the new term on an understated note, repeating the oath of office in a private ceremony the day before a more lavish, public reenactment. Chief Justice John Roberts administered the 35-word oath flawlessly and from notes a few minutes before noon - a contrast from 2009 when he recited it from memory and flubbed the words - as First Lady Michelle and First Daughters Malia, 14, and Sasha, 11, looked on. The oath, administered by Chief Justice John G. The Boston Globe's Matt Viser and David Uberti: "Obama takes oath, with gala to follow today" President Obama was sworn into office on Sunday just before noon, officially beginning another four-year term."I did it," Obama said to his youngest daughter, Sasha, after being sworn in by Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts.
