Warm weather hasn’t come to Washington just yet, but spring fever hit the Hill yesterday just the same.
When approached online by his press secretary’s boyfriend, Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., agreed to sacrifice his official Twitter account to young love Thursday evening.
@markwarner Senator: your PressSecy pays more attn to this feed than her own – can I borrow this space for a minute?
— Brett Wanamaker (@Brett_Wanamaker) March 7, 2013
@brett_wanamakerCertainly. Best of luck!

Social media experts say one of the main goals of using tools like Twitter is engagement – but perhaps not the way Brett Wanamaker interpreted it.
@markwarner @bethaleh Beth Ellen Adelson, will you marry me?
— Brett Wanamaker (@Brett_Wanamaker) March 7, 2013
@brett_wanamaker what is happening
— Beth Adelson (@bethaleh) March 7, 2013
These two tweets from Wanamaker, whose Facebook lists him as being a member of the 2013 class at Johns Hopkins University’s medical school in Baltimore, were his first ever. The reply from Adelson was a bit of a cliffhanger, but the story had a happy ending, documented for all to see on Warner’s Twitter feed.
