The Senate confirmed Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx as Transportation Secretary Thursday with a unanimous vote of 100 to 0.

Foxx has served as mayor of Charlotte since 2009 and spearheaded several major infrastructure projects in the city. He rose to prominence after hosting the Democratic National Convention in August last summer.

Foxx is replacing Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, who said he would stay in the post until a new secretary is confirmed.
