DETROIT ABC News' Kari Rea: " Detroit Mayor: 'We Will Come Back' From Bankruptcy" In an exclusive interview on ABC's "This Week," Detroit Mayor Dave Bing said he hopes the city's decision to file for bankruptcy will provide a new beginning for the Motor City. USA Today's Aamer Madhani: " Obama sets campaign to tout his vision for the economy" President Obama will kick off a several-weeks long effort Wednesday to barnstorm the country and press resistant Republicans to work with him to bolster the economy. In the campaign, Obama will lay out his vision directly to Americans for how Washington and the private sector can put a charge into an economy that is improving only in fits and starts. LINK

The Wall Street Journal's Peter Nicholas: " Obama Aims to Shift Focus To Boosting Jobs, Economy" Hoping to reignite efforts to shore up the economy, President Barack Obama this week will begin a series of speeches focusing on his jobs agenda and his priorities to build a stronger middle class. Mr. Obama will deliver about a half dozen talks in the coming weeks, beginning with an address on Wednesday at Knox College in Illinois. LINK

The New York Times' Mark Landler: " Obama Plans To Unveil His Agenda For Economy" With major battles looming in the fall over the federal budget and the debt ceiling, President Obama is trying to regain the initiative, embarking on a campaign-style tour of the Midwest this week to lay out his agenda for reinvigorating the nation's economy, administration officials said Sunday. Mr. Obama's offensive will begin on Wednesday in Galesburg, Ill., with what his aides are saying will be a major address on economic policy at Knox College. Officials declined to provide details of the president's message, but said he would set his terms for what they expect will be another bruising battle with a Republican-controlled House over the nation's fiscal policies. Politico's Andrea Drusch: " W.H.: Knox College First In Series Of Economic Speeches" President Barack Obama's appearance at Knox College on Wednesday will mark the first in another series of economic speeches focused on middle class, the White House said Sunday. The addresses, to be delivered over the next several weeks, will include both new and previously released proposals on issues such as health care, education, home ownership, job security, and retirement savings, Senior White House adviser Dan Pfeiffer said in an email sent to the president's supporters Sunday night. The Washington Post's Scott Wilson: " Obama Seeks To Put Economy, Middle Class Back In Spotlight" President Obama will deliver a series of speeches this week designed to push the economy, and his proposals to ensure its long-term growth, toward the center of the national political debate after months of focus on other issues. White House officials described the effort Sunday as a way for the president to revisit some of the economic themes he has spoken about since his early days in the U.S. Senate and to outline how he intends to appeal to Congress and the public to secure his goals in the months ahead.
