Sen. Leahy, Cory Booker Give Affleck as Batman a Thumbs Up

While the Twitterverse is aflutter with users voicing their opposition to Ben Affleck as the next Batman, one U.S. senator with ties to the Batman movie series and a potential future U.S. senator gave Affleck a heavy nod of approval.

"Ben's a great pick for # Batman & a New Englander to boot. I guess that means I'm out of the running…"" Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt. tweeted Friday morning.

Leahy is no stranger to the Batman movie franchise. So far, the Vermont senator has made cameos in four different Batman movies. He famously shared an exchange with the Joker, played by Heath Ledger, in "The Dark Knight Rises."

"We're not intimidated by thugs," Leahy said, prompting the Joker to hold a knife to his mouth.

Newark Mayor Cory Booker also expressed his approval of the casting decision, telling one Twitter user who disapproved, "Sorry, I'm pro Ben."

It's unclear if Leahy will make a fifth cameo in the next Batman, but it's probably in Leahy's best interest to get on Affleck's good side if he wants a part.
