The federal court ruling that declared the no-fly list unconstitutional is a "recipe for disaster," given the rising terror threats to the United States, House Intelligence Committee chairman Mike Rogers said today.

At a breakfast with reporters, Rogers blasted the decision of an Oregon federal judge, who ruled Tuesday that air travel is a "sacred" liberty. The judge said the government must change its no-fly list procedures to ease international travel.

The Michigan Republican said the court ruling only adds to an already urgent threat facing the United States in the wake of the escalating Iraq crisis. He said all Americans should be deeply concerned by a renewed threat of terrorism because of the easy access to Western passports by Islamic State of Iraq and Syria fighters.

"It's a great recipe for disaster," Rogers said. "It makes no sense whatsoever."

Judge: People on No-Fly List Must Have Due Process

Rogers, speaking to reporters on Capitol Hill at a Christian Science Monitor breakfast, said the intelligence reporting from Iraq "sends chills down my spine," at the possibility of a terror attack on U.S. soil. He said new bomb-making technology, designed to escape detection, only compounds the worry.

All this, Rogers said, explains "why I can't sleep at night."

He said the United States and its allies need to disrupt the growth of ISIS across Iraq and the region. And, he said, it was time to stop publicly discussing air strikes.

"The president shouldn't be debating a tactic and neither should we," Rogers said, chiding his fellow members of Congress.

He said the administration needed to find a "strategic solution" to disrupt the power base of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria.
