Obama 'The Bear' Lets Loose in Denver
DENVER - A bear was on the loose in Denver Tuesday … a presidential bear, that is.
Just as the White House cautioned, President Obama, "The Bear," went "loose" in Denver, breaking the "bubble" to meet with average Americans.
Shortly after arriving in the Mile-High City, the president sat down for dinner at the Wazee Supper Club with five people who wrote him letters about their personal stories and, conveniently, issues that are high on his agenda, including raising the minimum wage, college affordability, and the Affordable Care Act.
After dinner, the president reportedly appeared to surprise even his own staff when he took an unplanned stroll down the street, stopping to chat with local residents.
The travel pool reported that, unlike many of the president's previously unannounced "off the record" movements, Obama's walk seemed to be a genuine last minute decision. The White House didn't think he'd do it and his Secret Service detail was yelling at the press and people on the street.
Obama chuckled as he came upon a man wearing a horse mask.
After a short walk, the president entered Wynkoop brewing company, exclaiming, "How's it going guys?"
There was a huge roar from the crowd and someone was overheard yelling, "Get that man a beer."
Someone else even offered the president a hit of weed. (Recreational marijuana became legal in Colorado in 2012.)
Obama just chuckled: "The Bear" rounded out his surprise outing with a victorious game of pool with Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper.
After his surprise stroll, the president turned into Wynkoop Brewing Company, which, the pool reports, used to be owned by Hickenlooper, who, just so happened to be at the bar tonight.
The president went up to the second floor and slowly made his way to the bar. He joked about the press pool huddled behind the bar, saying, "Don't let any of them steal anything."
After sipping his beer, the Rail Yard Ale, Obama remarked, "That's some tasty beer."
The president and the governor then headed to the pool table. Who knew bears played pool?
The president won, according to the pool.
"Did you see how many balls he still has on the table?" the president said to the press as he gestured at the governor.
The governor had five balls on the table as the president sunk the eight ball.
Obama then asked the press pool if they captured his win on camera (the cameras may have already been pushed out by that moment).
To set the tone, all the while Vanilla Ice was blasting out of nearby speakers.
