Kerry Washington has learned "through experience" that keeping her personal life out of the media just works for her.

In fact, the "Scandal" star got married in June to someone most fans didn't even know she was seeing. Washington and NFL player Nnamdi Asomugha had been quietly dating for a year before secretly marrying in Idaho.

Since then, Washington is still mum when it comes to her new husband. She decided to elaborate on the silence with Glamour for its October issue, which hits newsstands on Sept. 10.

"I've had earlier times in my career when I did talk about [my personal life]," she told Glamour. "I was on the cover of a bridal magazine. But I couldn't just turn around and say, "I only want to talk about the good stuff, but not the bad stuff." So I just thought, "OK, no more.""

Since that bridal magazine in 2005, when she was engaged to actor David Moscow, she's completely kept quiet about anyone she's associated with - even married to!

"I'm walking around in the world with my ring. And when people say congratulations, I say thank you," she said. "But I'm going to continue to not talk about it and just let it unfold."

Washington admits that she has friends in the industry who do talk about their love lives, but that it's not her way.

"I don't want to sound smug about it…but the point is to do what's best for me," she added.
