Trump Eyes Run as ‘Americans Elect’ Presidential Candidate
The Donald is at it again. After citing his possible independent presidential bid as the reason only two GOP candidates agreed to attend his Newsmax-sponsored debate, which he backed out of moderating on Tuesday, Donald Trump is continuing to stoke the rumors that he will launch a presidential bid, this time as a possible Americans Elect candidate.
“Thousands of e-mails from folks urging me to seek the Americans Elect Presidential nomination,” Trump tweeted from his @realDonaldTrump Twitter account Wednesday morning.
Americans Elect is the first online, independent presidential nominating convention that aims to gain ballot access in all 50 states. According to Elliot Ackerman, the group’s chief operating officer, Americans Elect is not a third party, but a second way to nominate a presidential candidate.
They have already secured a spot on the 2012 general election ballot in 11 states, are waiting for confirmation on their submitted petition signatures in three states and are in the process of collecting signatures in 15 others. So far 2.1 million people across the country have signed the Americans Election petition in support of ballot access.
Americans Elect spokeswoman Ileana Wachtel said Trump has not contacted the group about becoming their nominee. But he has time. The Americans Elect candidate drafting process does not open until January.
Lesser-known Republican presidential candidate Buddy Roemer is the only person that has publicly announced his intention to seek the Americans Elect nomination.
In a web video Trump released shortly after announcing he would not moderate the Newsmax debate, the billionaire businessman said he could not announce his intention to run as an Independent until after his television show “The Apprentice” ended for the season May 20.
Trump cited equal time laws that require TV stations not to give one political candidate more airtime than others as justification for his delayed decision.
“Around the middle of May I’ll be able to do whatever I want and I could run as an independent,” Trump said in the video. “If the Republicans pick the wrong person I would, in fact, seriously consider running.”
Trump mention the possibility of running for president 11 times in the three-minute video.

This man is almost as full of himself as Newt is. What a true CLOWN. Thousands are begging him to run – those thousands must all be Republicans that are lost in a sea of confusion when they see nothing but mediocrity that is being offered to them. And still, I’ve yet to see one Republican voter ADMIT they’re ashamed of the cesspool they get to vote from.

Personally I’d LOVE to see him run. Maybe when he gets fewer than ten votes (his family) he’ll finally realize that the whole country, Ds and Rs alike, know he’s nothing more than a creepy looking, egotistical, loud mouthed, dishonest buffoon. Republicans should hope he does go Independent. He’s an embarrassment to their party.

Donald Trump is nothing but a showman. Along the same lines as P.T. Barnum.

I would also love to see him run. He would siphon off votes from whatever clown the Republicans run. Hmmm, I wonder if “The Donald” is actually working for the DNC…..?

At least he’s the most intelligent Republican there is. Sarah Palin is second, followed by George W. Bush, Dan Quayle, Donald Rumsfeld, Lindsay Graham, Mitch McConnell, Jim Bunning and John McCain rounds out the Top 10.

Donald trump will not be nominated by the America’s Elect organization. He is far down on the list of potentual nominees. Both Ron Paul and Jon Huntsman are in the top 5 of possible America’s Elect nominees. Donald really should not have uttered on the talk shows that Ron Paul and Jon Huntsmann have a zero chance of winning. He couldn’t be further from the truth. The only person who has a zero chance of winning between these three gentlemen would be the Donald Trump.

This is a Presidential race. Not some reality show. The best thing Mr. Trump can do is to cast his vote quietly and let us do the same.

Blind spot – Beautiful!! But no Rick Santorum or John Boehner or Michelle Bachmann? Maybe they can’t score that high ;-)

Trump is a true aaay-whole. He denigrated EVERYONE that refused (Smartly) to attend HIS sideshow by saying they had no chance at winning the nomination. THEN when he was told that some of the best spokemen for CONSERVATIVES (George Will among them) said the candidates should just ignore him, TRUMP called THEM hacks. What right does a circus ring leader such as Donald Trump have to call highly educated and highly respected men like that hacks??? TRUMP is a JERK with lots of money given to him by his daddy. It’s not that tough to make money when you have that type of start and don’t forget all his bankruptcies too. This man is a total FOOL that needs to SHUT UP!!!!

I’d sure like to read some of the “thousands” of emails he’s claimed to have received. Thousands are urging him to run? And millions more are doubled over with laughter, including me. Sure, run, Donald. You might pull a few more votes away from Gingrich or Romney or whoever actually gets the Booby Prize– uh, the Republican nomination.

Don, don’t waste your time running. Go buy another building or get yourself a Monopoly game set and have some fun. You’d make an awful president, and as a nation we cannot afford your hair.

He backed out of hosting debate AFTER all but 2 candidates refused to attend. What a clown. And now he thinks he will get votes as a 3rd party candidate, what a delusion.

Ronald Reagan recieved many of the same types of negative commentaries prior to entering politics, due to his previous career in entertainment. Reagan of course went on to become one of our nations greatest presidents. Mr Trump like Reagan, is a very patriotic, unapologetic American.
After the Carter years Reagan was exactly what the US needed. Similarly, I believe Trump is exactly who the US “needs” to lead us after what is in many peoples opinion, the worst presidency since Jimmy Carters. Donald Trumps attitude is sometimes described as arrogant. I would deacribe him as both intelligent and confident. For the record I am an independent and tired of the left/right party club games. I think Obama has displayed more arrogance in the past three years than Trump has in 30. I believe if Trump ran for president he’d win, and i would venture to say that he would adjust his demeanor to some extent when officially in the political arena and outside the “entertainment” arena. Like it or not solutions to big problems are usually require comprimise…someplace in the center- not hard right or hard left, hence the success of Reagan. Finally, by the very title of this article alone, ABC demonstrates blatant bias…a far cry from the type of reporting we once saw from the likes of Ted Koppel, Peter Jennings et al…

Yes, If Romney is nominated I would very much like to see Trump run. He could win, I believe. It would be important for him to have a good running mate and perhaps a slate of potential cabinet members. He can’t do it alone but I think he is smart enough to figure out how to win. The American public do not wish to choose between Romney and Obama, tweedle dee and tweedle dum. Both are degrading America in different ways.
