Joe Biden Advised Against the Osama Bin Laden Raid

Vice President Joe Biden confessed this weekend that he advised President Obama not to launch the mission that ultimately killed Osama bin Laden last spring.

During remarks at a Democratic congressional retreat this weekend, Biden explained that when it came time to make the final decision, he had some lingering uncertainties about whether the 9/11 mastermind was in the suspected compound in Pakistan.

When the president asked his top advisers for their final opinion on the mission, all of them were hesitant, except for the former CIA director, now Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, Biden said.

“Every single person in that room hedged their bet except Leon Panetta. Leon said go. Everyone else said, 49, 51,” Biden said, as he offered the unsolicited details of the decision-making process.

“He got to me. He said, ‘Joe, what do you think?’ And I said, ‘You know, I didn’t know we had so many economists around the table.’ I said, ‘We owe the man a direct answer. Mr. President, my suggestion is, don’t go. We have to do two more things to see if he’s there,’” Biden recalled.

While the vice president did not explain what those two more things were, the next morning the president gave National Security Adviser Tom Donilon the “go” to launch the SEAL raid of the compound.

“He knew what was at stake, not just the lives of those brave warriors, but literally the presidency,” Biden said.

FREEDOM” “Let’s talk about the Presidents record in the last three years. Worse than terrible!”

Ok, let’s.

Full-scale Depression averted.
23 straight months of private sector job growth.
3.2 million private sector jobs created (of the 8.75 million we LOST under and immedicately following the Bush administration).
bin Laden dead (and 40 or so other terrorist kingpins dead or detained).
Gadaffi, one of the biggest backers of terrorism in the world, dead.
The Iraq war over.
American hostages rescued from Somali pirates with no loss of American life.
Bush’s TARP money all PAID BACK, with interest.
2nd year in a row the U.S. has EXPORTED more oil than it imports.

It is one thing to argue that he could have done BETTER, but to argue that he has made things WORSE is completely unsupportable.

A look at Obama’s first 1000 days.

- The U.S. debt increased by an average of $4.2 billion per day. The total rise in that time breaks down to more than $13,000 in additional debt for every single American.
- The government has spent more than $9.6 trillion, about 60 percent more than what Washington took in.
- The country racked up as much debt in the last 1,000 days as it did in the first 79,135 days. (That’s from 1776 to 1993.)
- In the last 1,000 days, America spent $1.2 trillion in interest on the debt. By itself, that would represent the world’s 15th largest economy.
- On the economic front, 2.22 million jobs have been lost.
- More than 2.4 million homes were repossessed for failure to pay mortgages.
- The unemployed are staying out of work longer — on average about 40.5 weeks, more than double the typical bout of joblessness in January 2009.
- The jobless rate has been at or above 9 percent for 840 of the last 1,000 days.
- Thirty-seven states have higher unemployment rates.
- Washington has spent almost $380 billion on federal unemployment benefits.
- Since January 2009, 7,076 new final regulatory rules were issued.
- About 12 million more Americans are on food stamps.
- Gas prices are up by more than 80 percent. The price-per-gallon has exceeded $3 every day in 2011.

Hope and Change!

Over $1.25 TRILLION of the debt ‘attributed’ to Obama is actually interest of the debt Bush left.

All ot the unemployment benefits you mention, the housing foreclosures, the hundreds of thousands of obs being lost as Obama took office, the jobless rate, the food stamps – ALL of these things are directly attributable to the economic collapse on Bush’s watch.

Gas prices in 2008 under Bush hit $4.12 per gallon. They’re now down at $3.37 per gallon. Gas prices briefly dipped very low during the economic crash – not a smart way to lower gas prices.

That’s all of your points show to be completely bogus. Next.

Facts

1. This recession was in full swing when the President took office.

2. TARP, the stimulus and the bailout stopped us from falling into a real depression.

3. The Congress is dysfunctional and exceptionally partisan.

4. The economy is slowly recovering.

5. The policies of the republican candidates closely resemble the policies of the Bush administration.

6. The recovery will be slow, there are no silver bullets.

Posted by: tmferretti | January 30, 2012, 1:53 pm 1:53 pm

The Republicans offer the same policies – cut taxes on the rich and deregulate industry and business – exactly what they offered under Bush. We saw the results of that – no thanks.

In his first two years, Obama was responsible for more US casualties in Afghanistan than Bush. Currently, Obama is responsible for 1,259 of 1,889 total casualties (the war started in 2001). That’s 67% of all casualties.

Obama publicly identified the Navy SEALS, our most elite and most highly-trained special operations forces, as Bin Laden’s shooters for a photo op so that he could attach his name to them. This totally exposed them. A number of Navy SEALS from that same unit were later deliberately targeted and killed in a revenge attack by the Taliban.

Were their deaths worth it?

Nonsense. Even as early as 2009, there were 2,500 active duty SEALs. Nobody was identified.

JUSTIN

I don’t know where you get your figures but they seem awful shady.

When did President Obama publically identify the SEALs, I haven’t seen any photos of them. When were SEALs in Afghanistan targeted and killed? If you’re talking about the helicopter that went down, it wasn’t targeted because SEALs were aboard.

Do you honestly believe this President or any President would risk military lives for political expediency. We are not talking about going into Iraq or do you blame George Bush for the lives lost there too.

You mean to tell me that after passing two of the biggest tax breaks in history, funding two wars ‘off the books’ with borrowed Chinese funds, and passing a completely unfunded giveaway to Big Pharma through the Pill Bill, all of a sudden, today, we’re short on money?!?!? Wow. How is it possible that, after we deliberately reduced federal revenue by a huge amount, and spent money we did not have on a war we did not need to start, we are short on cash? I mean, what could have caused THAT? It sure is puzzling.

And I agree gas prices are through the roof. So are oil company profits. Could there be a cause and effect thing going on here? Could it be that the oil companies are charging more money in order to make even more profits? Is that even possible? Gee, I dunno. That seems like a ridiculous scenario: industry raises retail price, industry makes record profit. Something is terribly wrong with that equation. There MUST be something that Obama has done to cause this. Because we certainly cannot blame the oil companies for the way they do business. Maybe Obama should decree that the price of gas will be set at a specific (and much lower) price from here on out. Is that what you want?

Over-blown crock of Cow Droppings.
They didn’t need to send in Seal Team 6 if they were worried about the lives of our elite soldiers. A half dozen cruise missiles would have done the trick. Also Clinton bombed locations in that area and it didn’t even put a small dent in the Presidency.

Has anyone took time out to THINK…. Bin Laden wasn’t hiding.. He was in plain sight.. It was Obama who said, we are going to stop wasting money, time, and lives and settle this.. He got the job done and now our love ones are coming home…. And you are suppose to send the best in on a mission with that high of an importance… If they just bombed the place they wouldn’t have been able to identify if he was truly dead. One thing I can say is, he is getting stuff done.. It may not be the best but at least he isn’t in the White House playing around…. When Obama gets another term we will really see an up swing…

For all of the whining about President Obama’s poor “economy”…I wonder how many here know that the recession began in December of 2007…13 months BEFORE President Obama even took office.

Or that the unemployment rate was at 7.6% the day G.W. walked and at 8.2% three weeks later>

Or how about that massive 700 billion dollar bank bailout that people constantly throw out at President Obama…when in fact, it was G.W. who signed it.

Trying to pin the current economic crisis, unemployment, the real estate meltdown and even the increased debt is directly related to not paying attantion to what actually was already in place and building way before he took office.

the fact is the Democrats had a majority in the house and senate since 2006. Bush had his blunders, but no where near Obama’s. By the way the biggest part of the crash was the housing market, where Democrat Barney Frank said on numerous occasions all was well with Freddy and Fanny and there was nothing to be concerned about. The Democrats didn’t take their majority seats in Congress until January 2007.

The housing bubble peaked and began its fall in the last quarter of 2005 and the first of 2006. The sub-prime crisis was already in motion in the year before the Democrats took their seats.

1) Bush homeownership plan aims at $5.5 million lift for minorities (2003)

President Bush announced an Administration effort to increase home ownership rates among African Americans and Hispanics by 5.5 million by 2010.

The plan would provide down payment assistance to 40,000 minority homebuyers each year . . .
Bush’s plan would be closely tied to some $440 million in minority loan programs offered by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. President Bush commended Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac’s efforts.

2) 2004: Under President Bush, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announces that it will require Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, also known as the Government-Sponsored Enterprises (GSEs) “to increase their purchase of mortgages for low- and moderate-income families and underserved communities.” In order to meet these new requirements, the GSEs begin purchasing mortgage-backed securities made up of subprime loans.

I’m a conservative Republican, and as far as I’m concerned President Obama had the courage to do what was needed to do! I absolutely hate Obama bashing! The President was elected by the majority and we need to treat him with respect. Had this mission gone sideways, he should have been treated with respect as well. As far as the outcome of this mission, my hat is off to the President for his risk taking. He’s also tried to treat the world with an open hand policy, and the world has basically turned their backs on an opportunity for a fresh start. He tried. As a Republican, I appreciate the hard line, this is the United States, we’re the greatest. He tried the Liberal side with an open hand, and the bottom line, is that neither way really works. Like every president before him, he is getting grey.

I don’t need to agree with the President’s views, because we live in this great country, we have the luxury of our own! It seems that I need to switch to the Independent party side, just so I’m not clumped in with the Rednecks!

Over 3 million jobs have been added since Obama’s policies hit full stride. Oil production in the country is up. Green energy production in the country is up. GM is back at the #1 car company in the world! Third shifts are being added at automotive plants. Bin Laden is dead. Kaddafhi is gone. Many, many al Qaeda leaders are gone. All of the world including Russia and China are onside against Iranian nuclear development. Nuclear inspectors are back in Iran. The stock market has gone up hugely since Obama’s policies began to kick in. This is a top of the line administration.

Had Bush or any Republican accomplished all of this in 3 years, the right wingers would be creaming their jeans and calling him one of the greatest presidents of all time. Trouble is – it isn’t Bush – it’s Obama – and right wingers are biased hypocrites.

I too am curious to know what the ‘Other Two Things’ were. However, for the past 10-years, we had been given so much bad/wrong information about Osama’s whereabouts. Too many wrong tips that I need more fingers and toes to count them on … and we even acted on a few of them and we were wrong and innocent people died. Obama & Biden both knew there was a chance, however small that Osama may or may NOT have been in that Compound. Lucky for us, we got good information and he was in fact there … but what if he hadn’t been there, like all the other times? What would the rest of the world have thought of us had we gone in there, shot the place up, killed people and Osama was not among them? Talk about egg on our faces and Humble Pie the size of Texas to eat!
Who would have been viewed by the rest of the world as Terrorist then? I don’t know much about the Rules Of Engagement, but I have to wonder … were they followed prior to attacking? And I do believe that the planned attack almost went very wrong? We just got lucky. Period! So Yes, I think Biden may have made the right call. He was being true to his convictions and you cannot fault someone for that.

So the last thing Biden said was not just the lives of the Brave Warriors, but literally, the Presidency. Whoa! Breath taker, I gasped, this is no surprise that the decadence of those who fill the positions of the Oval Office justbseeps from every mainstream media report. No longer is justice, or dignity, or the honor upheld for all the deaths of the soldiers that have died fighting this objectiveless war. In the beginning it was we will hunt down those who tore down these buildings. Then when they found them a few blocks away dancing on top of a van with a mural n the side of a plane going into a building nobody blinked we bombed Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Linhart, Sudan and now maybe Iran. Why stop the momentum? So now we find out it was literally to save Obama’s Presidency. With a name like that we just didn’t see it coming I guess. The spin was he was a Muslim. Then when he was bombing them all we thought what’s in a name.
Well I will finish with this to the current Administration, I know you are not channeling JFK so get off that nonsense, ask not what you can do for your country but what can your country do to salvage your political power, ….Literally!

My understanding is that the operation went quite a bit differently than the fictional narrative portrayed in the media. The facts are, that while Obama and Valarie Jarrett fought tooth and nail to delay the raid, Leon and Hillary made arrangements for everything to come together. Ultimately, they pulled a switch on Obama and tricked him into accidentally authorizing, but not ordering, the attack. While Obama was on the golf course, Panetta gave the final order. Only then was Obama brought in from the golf course to watch the raid (Joe Biden was already briefed and watching when Obama entered). The rest is, as they say, history. Interesting how the truth is so very different than the official story.

Republicans love to post LIES, but they never include any links to sources. Wonder why.
Republicans still try to blame democrats for the republican great depression.
The facts show that republicans looted trillions, started a modern great depression and were FIRED by voters in Nov 2006.

Both pelosi and obama walked into massive runaway record deficits and an economy in total freefall.
FY 2000 – 236 Billion SURPLUS – Clinton
FY 2001 – 128 Billion SURPLUS – Clinton
FY 2002 – 158 Billion Deficit – Bush/Republican congress
FY 2003 – 378 Billion Deficit – Bush/Republican congress
FY 2004 – 413 Billion Deficit – Bush/Republican congress
FY 2005 – 318 Billion Deficit – Bush/Republican congress
FY 2006 – 248 Billion Deficit – Bush/Republican congress
FY 2007 – 161 Billion Deficit – Bush/Republican congress (passed by republicans in 2006)
(Deficit numbers DO NOT include war spending which Bush kept “off-budget”)

FY 2008 – 468 Billion Deficit – Bush/Democrat congress (dems gave 170 Billion in tax rebate checks)
Source: CBO – Congressional Budget Office – Historical Data (search for “cbo doc10871 historical” for proof)

Bush turned a budget surplus into a record 1.3 TRILLION deficit which would add trillions in new debt to Obama’s tab. On Jan. 8, 2009, two weeks before Obama took office, the Congressional Budget Office testified before Congress that the deficit for fiscal year 2009 would be at least $1.2 trillion and probably more if a stimulus bill was passed.
(search for “cbo doc9958″ for proof) (The 2009 deficit ended Sept. 30, 2009 at $1.4 trillion)

The next fiscal year, 2010, the first full year under entire democrat control, the deficit FELL 8.6% from 1.4 to 1.3 trillion. (search for “cbo doc11936″ for proof)
Republicans won the house in Nov 2010 and forced their tax cuts for billionaires on America…now the deficit is projected to rise from 1.3 to 1.5 trillion in FY 2011. (Source: cbo doc12039)

Before 2009, Reagan held the record for the largest deficit since WW2 at 6.1% of GDP in fiscal year 1983) (Source: cbo 5056) Reagan STILL holds the record for increasing our debt.

Reagan increased our debt an average of 23% yearly…he TRIPLED it from 934B to 2.6T (186%)
Bush increased our debt an average of 11% yearly…he DOUBLED it from 5.7 to 10.6T (86%)
Obama increased our debt an average of 16% yearly from 10.6 to 14T (inherited massive deficits)
Source: US Treasury Dept. (search for “debt to the penny” for proof)

Our debt increased by 3.4 trillion in Obama’s first 2 years. Bush’s runaway 1.3 trillion deficit added 2.6 trillion and Obama added 787 billion from the jobs stimulus package. Of the 787 billion, one-third of that was tax cuts so Obama actually only had 500 billion in “new” spending.

Please get the facts people…don’t be tricked by the lies, the paid bloggers and fake news websites/channels started by billionaire republican activists.

So many dishonest one-sided comments here. Without a republican congress, Clinton would have never balanced the budget. Remember all the budget fights where the republicans wanted to cut spending? Clinton’s part of balancing the budget was to cut defense spending by several hundred billion per year and the result was 9/11 which happened less than 8 months into Bush’s presidency. 9/11 was a result of 8 years of Clinton’s foreign policy, Osama said so. The money Clinton cut from the military budget to get those surpluses should have been spent on intelligence. Bush had to clean up after Clinton’s disasterous defense policies. A Clinton recession was underway when Bush took office. A dot.com crash, a huge bubble that made Clinton look good but eventually crashed, happened shortly after Bush took over. The Enron and other corporate scandals that built during the Clinton administration came to light shortly after Bush took office. Most of the problems that occured during the first Bush term were the result of Clinton policies. So quit whining about what Obama inherited. Clinton was the luckiest guy alive, he inherited an economy on the rebound from a recession at the end of Bush Sr’s term and left the economy in recession right when GW Bush took over. All of the internet companies that lifted the economy during Clinton’s years were the result of things that happened during the Reagan administration. Bush stablized the economy with TARP and it was largely stabilized when Obama took over. Obama’s overreuglation and panding to the unions has prevented the ecnomony from coming back as it would have if we had a republican administration. The stock market has come back … that is what happens after a crash. It woud have come back under any administration. The fact is that Obama’s policies are hindering full recovery and we need to get him out of office.

they hemmed and hawed, deliberated, slept on it.

the truth gets out. following the lead originated by Cheney’s enhanced interrogation unit, the obama administration had a high confidence report on Osama’s location, and almost let him go without firing a shot.

what a difference from the quick and heavy commitment Bush made to tora bora, where our troops almost got him in the early days of the war on terror.

by the time Obama nabbed him, Osama was in a dark hole hiding behind one of his wives. this president is a disgrace.

You democrats are so misinformed. The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are chump change compared to what we are paying on social programs. Social programs are what is busting the budget, not those two “wars”. And would you pansies have not gone into Afghanistan? They were the ones that were responsible for 9/11. They let Bin Ladin train there and gave him protection. I guess we shouldn’t have invaded to wipe out the taliban and Bin Laden? So take that off your idiotic whine list because even Obama supported that “war”. And the problem with obama is that he took a bad economic situation and made it worse. He is hindering the recovery. We would be in full recovery mode if it weren’t for his policies of rewarding failure and punishing success. The republicans aren’t perfect, but the are the answer to the problems we have now. And any attempt to say that all of the country’s problems are the result of republican policies is just ridiculous. Most of the problems Bush dealth with were caused by Clinton. If you deny that, you are a partisan that can’t think straight.

Morons who blame it all on Bush…it was Clinton who set up the sub-prime lending and $0 down mortgages. THAT is what caused the crisis. The story kept changing, more than i’ve ever seen for reporting. They not only refused to show a picture but rushed a sea burial that was not even part of mulsim tradition as they claimed. The video they released of bin laden never showed his face, he looked more like some bum off the street that was paid to sit on some dingy floor and watch CNN. Clinton never had a budget surplus, that is a myth. He also handed over a weak economy when he left. The NASDAQ Composite reached a high of 5,132 in March of 2000. By December, the NASDAQ fell to 2,470. It lost over 50% of its value the last year Clinton was in office. This led to a weakened economy and a huge loss of tax revenue from businesses and capital gains. While it wasn’t Clinton’s fault, it also isn’t fair to blame the weakened economy on Bush.

It also isn’t fair to blame all of 9/11 on Bush. The attacks on 9/11 were planned for the summer of 2000, but several of the hijackers weren’t able to get into the country for flying lessons. George Tenet was the CIA Director appointed by Clinton, and he stayed on during the Bush administration. Tenet had years to find out about the planning of the 9/11 attacks, and he wasn’t able to prevent them. If Bush brought in his own guy and he put policies in place that caused our intelligence to miss the 9/11 attacks, then it would be his fault. Bush shares some blame, but definitely not all of it. It is also ironic that it was Tenet who said that the case for Iraq having WMDs was a slam dunk, and then when it turned out not to be true, Dems say that Bush lied about WMDs. It is almost like Tenet did everything he could to sabotage the Bush administration.

The attack on Iraq wasn’t the Republicans fault. The deficits through the 2000′s weren’t the Republicans fault. The massive debt left wasn’t the Republicans fault. The sub-prime crisis wasn’t the Republicans fault. The collapse of the stock market wasn’t the Repubicans fault. The economic crash wasn’t the Republicans fault. The loss of millions of jobs wasn’t the Republicans fault. Nor the tens of thousand of bankruptcies.

But all the good things that have happened since Obama got elected are the responsibility of the Republicans.

Okay, I’ve got it now.

The first 2 years of the Obama administration the house and senate were controlled by the democrats and for a time with super majorities in both. “could have passed everything they wanted)

Congress voted on an approved the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and we still have solders being shot at in both!

Best thing I have heard Obama say is make illegal, insider trading in congress and make the members divest from investments in companies who could benefit from legislation.

The POTUS has been reduced over the past several administrations, it is the congress that needs to change

“Do you honestly believe this President or any President would risk military lives for political expediency. ” Are you F-ing me? Every president in the recent history of this country has risked military lives for the sake of expediency, with the possible exception of Carter, oh wait….anyone remember “operation eagle claw?”

People, wake up! This president is no better than any others, he’s not the messiah. There is a ton of issues in Washington; mostly not due to one party or the other, but to both. Vote on basis of individual beliefs–NOT on party affiliation!

Well I can understand Biden’s hesitation.

We were getting ready to secretly and illegally enter a country that we were allies with, without their knowledge or consent. We were going to send young Americans in to harms way and that they may die from it.

Or even worse be captured. Biden has a son serving and did serve there.

With the Osama bin Laden raid in Pakistan, Obama, as president has shown no respect for international laws, no matter if bin Laden was an extremely dangerous criminal, a big MF for planning the 9/11 tragedy.
Obama did it simply because has the military power to do it and can get away with it, with the blessing of the US Congress (just like Bush did when he decided to invade Iraq, with the blessing of the same congress). Also, because USA provides millions of dollars to Pakistan in help, that should not be reason to do it. Pakistan is another country, not USA territory.

I am completely against any act of terrorism anywhere, anytime, but If some terrorists in some foreign countries plan and execute things like planting bombs in commercial airplanes, houses or in the streets, killing hundreds or thousands of people and if those foreign governments send troops (without asking USA first) to kill the terrorists (eg) hiding in USA territory, would the American government accept that?. No, it will not.
However, the USA government can do it in other countries, whenever and wherever wants.

The U.S Government wanted Bin Laden dead for other reasons. 9/11 Was done by OUR own Government. The UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT. To #$%$ the U.S citizens off so they could go to war because of oil Which had to do with Saddam Hussein. Saddam was about to sale the oil to Europe which would then make Europe a super power because they would own 2/3 of the worlds oil. The U.S was not about to let any country have that much power. They blew up the towers and created someone they wanted dead already as a scape goat which was Bin Laden. At that time the U.S citizens were tired of war and wanted our soldiers home. We were not going to allow another war especially over oil. So they take out towers that effected not just Americans but lots of other countries. Because to the Government we are expendable. They (U.S Government) will do anything in their power to protect their, MONEY, POWER, and CORRUPTION, they could care less who they kill. Wake up U.S The only Terrorist and Biggest threat to the U.S.A. Is the Unites States Government

Wow, people actually believe this garbage? I didn’t think there was anyone stupid enough to turn down the opportunity to take out Osama. As if it was a tough decision? This is nothing more than Biden trying to make it look like Obama was capable of doing something other than voting “present” (playing the race card and being divisive excluded). Dems and the media know leadership is Obama’s biggest weakness so expect more garbage like this. Obama has counted on an uninformed public. Don’t expect the media to make you any smarter.

What a load of crap. Clearly this is so President Obama can run on what a tough decision he had to make to get Bin Laden. For it to be a campaign issue it has to be “…against the advice of all those around him, HE made the tough decision to OK the mission.”

Almost every American (save for Ron Paul and some, but not all, of his followers) would have made the same decision – and certainly EVERY President that ever served before him would have as well. Even Jimmy Carter.

Can you imagine if he had said ‘No” to the mission? Hillary would have resigned and began her campaign to replace him.

W. Bush had 3000 Americans die during his watch
W. Bush had 2 unfunded wars go wrong during his watch
W. Bush was in charge when 3,400 us soldiers died
W. Bush had the economy collapse during his watch

Obama’s worst sin is to saddle future generations with trillions of dollars in foreign debt. China OWNS this country, and things will get ugly when they call in that debt.

The real public debt, counting promises of future entitlements, now stands at over $250,000 per household. It is absolutely impossible for the Federal government to meet its obligations going forward. We are bankrupt. Period. If this government were a private business, or a private home, the windows would be boarded up and there would be a sheriff’s sale in the parking lot.

By what right do lawmakers cripple generations yet unborn with crushing debt? Who asked THEIR permission before we signed THEIR names to the contract? I can’t arbitrarily sign MY children to a contract without their knowledge or consent. But that’s exactly what the national debt is. WE aren’t going to pay it. Not even close. We’re spending TODAY and letting the future worry about our mess.

We need a balanced budget amendment. The simple concept of equal protection under the law REQUIRES such an amendment. Nobody is speaking for the people who will be expected to pay the debt. They have no voice. That is manifestly unfair and un-American. They get all the burden and none of the benefits. How do my future great-grandchildren benefit from me getting a taxpayer-funded mortgage bailout, or a tax credit for buying a new furnace, or some worthless crackhead getting a free apartment and food stamps? All they get is the BILL.

Actually, the search for Bin Laden lasted a long time. 1) The order to kill him was given many years ago. Kudos to Obama getting him on his watch. 2) As for Iraq, that happened under Bush’s plan not Obama’s. Obama promised a 16 month pullout if he became POTUS which means we should have been gone in May of 2010. 3) If NATO is useful again, please explain why we, the USA, launched more missile strikes and air raids than all other countries COMBINED? 4) Obama’s job record is still in the negative. According to many economists, more people have quit searching than the jobs that have been created. Calling people fools is typical left wing disrespect, but most people are used to it by now.

Are you that foolish, or just being dishonest? The momentum from the Bush collapse was just peaking as Obama took office and it continued for almost 6 months. “Weren’t the 9/11 terrorists funded by the Pakistani Intelligence service and Bush didn’t even think it was important to investigate that. Why?”

They were funded by an immensely wealthy Arab billionaire named Osama bin Laden. Wake up, Mr. VanWinkle. Your Pakistan claim is a conspiracy theory.

Pakistan is a cesspool, and no doubt some Pakistanis were involved, but the government most directly responsible was the Taliban government of Afghanistan, who knowingly sheltered, aided and abetted Al Qaeda.

9-11 was perpetrated by ISLAM, with funding primarily from the Bin Laden family fortune.

If it was Pakistan, and not Osama bin Laden, then why are you liberals giving Barry the credit for murdering an innocent man? Pick a story and stick with it, please.

But they WERE warned, at least shortly before the raid. Think about it: He was hiding in a military town, and we sent in helicopters and started shooting the place up. It was noisy. This went on for about 20 minutes before the first police siren was heard, and the Pakistani military never did ANYTHING. They knew. Their government knew. Don’t be naive. They needed plausible deniability to avoid trouble with their radical Islamic elements, but they knew we were going in. They stepped aside and let us take care of business.

all I can say is Obama is so bad he makes Bush look good and that is one hard thing to do. Bush spent way too much on things that the federal government is not supposed to do ( prescription drug bill -ect – ect -ect) then Obama comes in and tosses down a federal health care bill.

I disagree with 99% of what Obama does but I also disagreed with 85% of what Bush did and 95% of what the federal government does. What is needed is a massive reduction in the federal government, removal of the federal income tax and a reduction of business taxes (USA has the highest business taxes in the world) That is the only thing that is going to create jobs and get the American People the freedom we are given by our creator (not the federal govt)

You are wrong Billy Boy. The recession started in December of 2007 and officially ended in June of 2009. Obama did not come into office until January 20 2009. So you see, Obama did not inherit a recession. He inherited the tail end of recession. If anything, you could say that Obama inherited an improving economy. While it is true the economy has seen some minor improvements in the past few years, the problem in essence is what we have done to get these minor improvements. Obama and the Democrat controlled Congress have spent massive amounts of money causing record high debt and deficits. The question is, is what do we have to show for it? The housing market still sucks. Unemployment is still high. Underemployment is even higher. Growth is pathetically low. Yes, the economy is a little better than it was in 2009, but two and a half years since the recession ended that should be expected. However, after all the money we have spent, we should be in much better shape. Basically the problem is simple; the spending does not justify the results. We spent five trillion and counting to try to fix the economy, and in the end we got the worst economic recovery ever.

They show a 2.7% increase in the economy, but when they revise that in the next month or so, it will probably be closer to 2.0%. We need 3.5% or better for an improving economy. Obama is not the one to get us there. His spending is prolonging our recovery. Just wait until the states have to balance their budgets without ANY stimulus money. They will shed teachers, firemen, etc to balance the books resulting in more unemployment. The federal and state governments need to offer incentives to shrink hte workforce by attrition. Those so called “”saved jobs”" may only be “”prolonged”" and not actually saved.

This is the only way they know how to get even the members of their own party to vote for one of their own. The economic recovery has been among the worst ever.

Posted by: jjj | January 31, 2012, 2:40 am 2:40 am

It took Bush 2 and a half years to turn around job losses into job growth. It took Obama less than a year. This economic collapse on Bush’s watch was the worse since the Great Depression – hence the recovery is also one of the slowest.

We’ve had steady job growth for over 23 straight months. 100,000 job being added every month for the last 6 month. And this in the face of a massive global recession as a result of the economic collapse on Bush’s shift.

Bin Laden is gone. Ghaddafi is gone. Many, many al Qaeda leaders are gone – just as Obama campaigned on – to focus on al Qaeda – and we voted for him and he has delivered.

The automotive industry in the United States is flourishing right now. Under Bush it was in collapse. Tens of thousands of people have jobs because of that – you’d prefer they all be on welfare or unemployment – that’s your issue. Spin off into the economy is keeping hundreds of thousands more employed.

The debt has already been discussed. $1.25 trillion of the debt you pretend is Obama;s is interest on the debt Bush left.

Thats why there are no photographs. This is all a scam which bobo thinks he has gotten by with.”

Judy, based on your answer which you have already repeated, I question if you even read my post at all. You are clearly more interest in blaming Bush for everything than knowing the truth. I don’t know what I find more funny. The fact that you actually believe that Obama has been fiscally responsible, or that you now think it is cool to kill terrorists while during the Bush years you thought that by using force we were only creating more terrorists than we were killing. You do realize that Obama had kept most of the Bush’ anti-terrorism polices that he railed against, right?
As far as his poll numbers are concerned, he has small bumps before, only to collapse very shorty after. Within one week he will be right back in the mid forties where he has hovered for over two years.

President Obama campaigned on gearing down Iraq and stepping up against al Qaeda including targeted strikes against leadership in countries like Pakistan. He’s done just that, and he’s done it with the cooperation of he governments of Yemen, Somalia and Pakistan. It’s been very well executed.

Bush must bear some kind of responsibility for what happened on his watch – major intelligence failures on 9/11 and weapons of mass destruction, and a major economic collapse.

When Bush left office, this is what was taking place . …

1) Hundreds of thousands of real people losing their jobs every month, month after month;
2) millions of people losing their homes and being kicked out of them;
3) tens of thousands of businesses going bankrupt;
4) major banks and financial institutions on the verge of default;
5) stock market in full collapse;
6) major American auto companies about to go bankrupt;
7) demands on government resources skyrocketing;
8) government revenues collapsing as millions of taxpayers were losing their jobs and no longer paying income tax;
9) the demand for unemployment insurance exploding;
10) and on and on and on . ..

I’m sorry, Bush cannot duck these things. Nor can he blame them on Obama.

I have got news for you Judy, Obama broke every promise he made regarding the Iraq issue. First he wanted us out immediately. Then it was sixteen months. Then it was combat troops out in sixteen months. Then that changed to nineteen months. In the end, Obama essentially followed the withdraw plan signed into law by Bush before he left office to a tee. In fact, Obama wanted to keep troops in Iraq passed the withdrawal deadline but screwed up the negotiations. As it happened, it was Iraq that ended up throwing us out. Let me also remind you that the Drone program started under Bush and was continued by Obama. It was Bush that was able to get countries like Pakistan, Yemen and Somalia to cooperate with us. Not Obama. Our relations with those countries may have actually gotten worse under Obama, especially Pakistan. Besides, without the intelligence that was collected during the Bush, years, those drones strike would never have happened.

I have got some more bad new for you. The economy still sucks. Two and a half years after the recession officially ended, there is still much doubt regarding the economy. Our growth is terrible. Unemployment is still higher than Obama promised it would be. The labor force is the smallest it has been in thirty years. Underemployment is a major problem. Housing just finished its worst years ever. gas prices are expected to rise again as is inflation. Many of those things you listed are still happening. Eventually, Obama will have to take some responsibility.

You guys keep expressing your freedom. I love hearing it ring.

As for the topic. No one is perfect. Everyone makes mistakes. Bush left us with a huge problem with his give-aways to the wealthiest among us. Obama has to deal with a party that despises his own, while at the same time cannot believe they have to work with someone whom they believe would never have to answer to(African American President). Yes I wrote it! It is easy let the country unravel (congress) if you have money and need of nothing, you can make money off of insider trading, and if the government shuts down, you still get paid and your benefits.

The real republican party, I miss you so much. Please come back!

Obama Obama, when will the American public wake up and stop the blame game on Former President Bush. Obama had had 3 years in which to do something about, employment, energy, the economy, our world respect. Not the brown nose Obama has. He says a lot and his last Union address sounded just like all the others spend spend and spend some more, not to name more regulations and his comments some of which were anti American, why don’t we split the country. Social warfare will not get us anywhere. I don’t want to see the USA become somewhat like a European country.

Bush didn’t have nearly the success Obama has had in targeted al Qaeda leadership in Yemen or Somalia or Pakistan.

By the way, the drone was developed under Clinton, not Bush – you going to pretend Clinton is responsible for the few Bush successes with the drone?

And please, stop repeating the right wing lie about Obama promising a specific number on unemployment. He didn’t.

Gas prices are lower now than the prices they hit under Bush. We’re producing more oil. We’re producing more green energy.

The economy has added at least 100,000 jobs every month for the last 6 months. Your boy Bush saw 800,000 jobs being lost every month, banks and financial institutions collapsing, tens of thosuands of small businesses going bankrupt, two major auto companies headed towards bankruptcy. Things are far, far better under Obama.

And most importantly, the Republicans have no policies to offer except for lowering the taxes on the wealthy and deregulating industries – exactly what we saw under Bush – and we saw how well that did.

Americans are not interested in that. You’ll see Republicans lose seats in November and you’ll see President Obama elected to a second term.

And I think it was prudent for Obama to adjust his Iraq withdrawal time table. A more stupid man would have belligerently tried to enforce his will – Obama adjusted smartly.

I can respect everyone’s political beliefs and affiliations. But I cannot respect someone who refuses to give our president credit for making a ballsy decision that resulted in the killing of Bin Laden. Bush had two terms to get Bin Laden and was not able to do so. He exibited that he did not have the guts to risk alienating Pakistan in order to serve our political and national security interests. If that mission had gone awry, EVERY ONE of the Obama detractors who refuse to give him credit for this mission and other positive things that he has done, would be placing the blame directly on our president’s shoulders. That was a politically risky and brave decision that Obama made. Give the man the credit that he deserves.

Posted by: Ken Settle Photos | January 31, 2012, 4:22 am 4:22 am

Umm Judy, it took years to get accurate intelligence for the drone strikes. It took us till 2007 to infiltrate the Pakistani tribal areas alone. Somalia has gotten worse under Obama. Yemen did not get hot until mid-2009 and is deteriorating more very day. The only reason why Obama was able to launch so many strikes as he did was because of the intelligence gathered under the Bush years. Drones might have been around for years, but attaching missiles and using them as weapons started under Bush. Gas prices are rising and are expected to rise more. If we are producing more oil, we sure as hell are not using it ourselves. Green energy is collapsing to the tune of billions of lost taxpayer dollars. You thought it was prudent for Obama to adjust his Iraq timetable? Well then what was all that crap he spoke about while campaigning? You are basically calling Obama prudent for the same reasons you called Bush a war monger for. If you are so mad at the Bush tax cuts, why then are you not mad a Obama for keeping them? He extended them for another two years, praised them, and then within months was back to his old mantra. As of now, the American public still does not trust the Democrats or Obama on the economy as they continue to get very low marks on them as most polls show. Republicans have passed at least a dozen job bills only to have them rejected by the Senate. Obama has no plan to help this economy other than spending more money we do not have. Things may be a little better now, but it came with a massive price tag that we will be paying for dearly when we default on our debt eventually. You will probably be to busy still blaming Bush to notice.

Posted by: jjj | January 31, 2012, 4:51 am 4:51 am

To Ken:
Bush did launch at least two secret raids into Pakistan. They were unsuccessful because the intelligence simply was no there yet. It took at least six years to identify the Bin Laden courier and another three to track the courier down. Much of the intelligence for the Bin Laden raid came from Al Queda operatives that were captured during the Bush years, many of whom were captured in Pakistan. Bush was not afraid of the Pakistanis. In fact, the only reason why Pakistan ever cooperated with us at all was because of Bush. Before 9/11, Pakistan openly supported the Taliban. Afterwards, we laid down the law and the Pakistan turned against them and started fighting them.
I have no problem giving Obama credit for giving the go on the raid, but all he really did was green light an existing policy. Regardless of who was in office, I do not believe anyone would have said no to this. Well, except maybe Biden….

No one should be proud of the capture of Osama that took over 9 years. The man was on dialasys and no one could get him.. Big increase… When do we get a President in office that actually cares for the people..

BOTH parties support large government if you look at actions and not rhetoric. Hence the reason we have out of control deficits, over-regulation of business by the bureaucratic class, failing education, infrastructure in decline, high taxation (yes, sorry lefties but our taxation is some of the highest in the industrialized world), an out-of-touch political class…shall I go on?

Do you all realize that it took about 400 days to build the Empire State Building and yet, after a decade, we argued about how to replace the WTC? How many government agencies had to have a say? How many overlapping agencies were involved in the cleanup of the BP spill in the Gulf?

Please wake up and realize that BOTH parties are responsible for this mess.

The phrase that comes to mind is: “Don’t pee on my leg and tell me it’s raining”. Obama is destroying America, and we KNOW this to be fact. It’s just amazing to me to see people supporting Obama and the destruction he is causing. And yes, I believe that he will get reelected–i believe this because the GOP is not putting forth anyone who is awesome, and that’s pathetic because we have a guy who is landslide beatable right now. The truth is,Obama was playing golf as the real heroes, our military and inteligence agencies, did the hard work. They found bin laden and then presentd Obama with a button. All Obama had to do was push the button and then watch it play out on the big screen.

The only calculation Obama made was how this would benefit or harm his presidency.

This pretty much says it all:
“He knew what was at stake, not just the lives of those brave warriors, but literally the presidency,” Biden said.

That’s the difference between Obama and Bush. For Bush, the lives of the soldiers would have been paramount. For Biden/Obama, their precious political futures were the most pressing concern. Sad, really, that they put something so silly over the lives of the men fighting for our country.

Posted by: Jon | January 31, 2012, 11:02 am 11:02 am

Lee and Wildblu, you are right. But the worst thing about the decision to send in the SEALS is that it was made for one reason alone, to “save his presidency”. The lives of the brave men be damned, an afterthought at best. Everything this guy does is to celebrate his being.

With such OUTSTANDING WARRIORS standing ready to do what they are trained to do, making the decision to kill or capture one of the US’s MOST WANTED enemy combatants would be a NO BRAINER.

PRAISING anyone because they failed to divulge such a TOP SECRET mission is ” laying it on pretty thick” ( see NoBrainer above) He did not tell his wife but he told numerous other people in the White House. Yep, told them to assemble in this Communications Room at whatever hour stated to watch a LIVE transmission of a TOP SECRET mission.
Can’t you just imagine the Seal Team Leader ( being told in an AFTER-ACTION REPORT) that the timing of his mission was simply to ACCOMODATE a POLITICIAN and a VIDEO OP.
The first few priorities for a leader of such an operation should be
# 1. Secrecy
# 1a.Safety of personnel.
# 1b.Mission Accomplishment.

NEWS-FLASH!!!! Now the Vice President is saying he advised against the mission because ‘ we have to assure he’s there” Yet, in spite of NOT BEING ABLE to determine definately that Bin Laden was there, the President went ahead with the decision based on what the Secretary of Defense advised. If Panatta advised the President to GO without positively placing the TARGET at GROUND ZERO, then he should reassess HIS PRIORITIES.

It’s good to know that Bin Laden is dead, however, there are entirely tooo many loop-holes in what is being reported to think the photo of all (12) {so much for secrecy} those advisers watching in AWE & AGAPE was anything other than a PHOTO-OP.

Can you imagine a patrol made up of members of the 101st Abn Div coming across a band of Taliban protecting BIN LADEN.
If our military is being trained today to pattern their approach to combat to reflect and protect the reputation of a few politicians, then we should again take a look at the priorities we ambigously place on our military.

Coming into the election season, Obama needs to be seen as a strong, decisive leader. How fortuitous that Joe Biden is there to prop him up. I’ve always believed that Biden was only put on the ticket to make Obama look good. Obama is a novice ideologue that can only look good when compared to a moron like Joe. The only thing Joe has ever been good at is leveraging himself into positions of power, despite his lack of competence.

. . . . the next morning the president gave National Security Adviser Tom Donilon the “go” to launch” – ABC News

Bama asked all those people their opinion and took until the next day to decide?!
On such an easy no brainer decision you’d think he would have been quicker and more sure of himself.
Maybe, Panetta made the decision after all and Barry went along with it.

wow, priorities:
“He knew what was at stake, not just the lives of those brave warriors, but literally the presidency,” Biden said.

This is a shameless campaign propaganda piece for the Obama re-election effort orchestrated by ABC “News”. Biden’s opinion was important in the decision to release the SEAL team on Bin Laden? Really? Revisionist BS! Panetta and Hillary already had the mission set to go and Valerie Jarrett whispering opposition in the President’s ear was the biggest obstacle in the way of starting the mission. Also: Everyone in the room was sworn to secrecy as to the identity of the unit that was going in after Bin Laden but Biden was the one who outed the SEAL team and that resulted in many of them being set up and killed weeks later. I can just hear Obama now: “Joe! I thought I told you to shut the hell up!”

Twice the most wanted man in the world was reported to have died and the USA just rufuted these reports without sending out an investigative team to establish the truth? Sorry, but I don’t buy this story at all. Osama Bin Laden was silent for too long to have been alive. He must have died when George W. Bush declared him not to be the priority anymore (THE MOST WANTED MAN IN THE WORLD! LOL) who was now replaced by Sadam Hussein of Iraq. It is so very obvious that the government is convinced that the American people are stupid or just not paying attention! Here’s one who thinks otherwise. This is good publicity and that’s all for Daddy “O” who needs all of the propaganda he can bribe or muster up. Perhaps someone will come forward and lead us to OBL’s grave to put an end to this whole cherade.
