Nearly 20 years after the double murder mystery of two Alabama teens, this morning, DNA evidence blowing the cold case wide open. Linking this man, 45 yeerl coley Mccraney to the crimes. Police decided to take another look at the murders of J.B. Beasley and Tracie haw let. After the bomb shell arrest of who people believe to be the golden state killer. Police have been tracking new leads in daubl murder. Reporter: According to investigators, Beasley and haw letd got lost on the way to a party in the summer of 19. The next morning, their bodies were found in the trupg of Beasley's car with gunshot wounds to their heads. Over the years, their families not giving up home. Haw letd's mother spoke to wbhn in 2012. Another year without any answers. Another year that we're still trying to find answers. Reporter: Last August, police gave the case another look, sending DNA evidence to a lab to try to find a match in a genealogy database. Those results led to Mccraney. Every time I think of J.B., I'm joyful. She was such a wonderful influence on me. It's been 20 years. A lot of good people have -- have been involved in trying to solve this thing. Reporter: This, just one in a string of cold cases seeing major breaks with the use of DNA. Last month, police in California arrested James Allen kneel in the 197murder of 11-year-old Linda Ann o'keefe, matching his DNA to the crime scene. Public awareness. And that DNA is what got us here. Reporter: Now this morning, coley Mccraney remains in jail without bond facing charms of capital murder's first-degree rape. He wasn't even a suspect in the murder back in 199. He was only linked to this by the new DNA test. That's the power of these tests. And with these databases, do we know which was used? We don't know this one specifically.
